:o

oh nooo.

acording to a show on tech tv called tech live. they did a story where they say that cdroms might be gone from the stores in 5 years or so. which means dvd's will follow later?

they say the record companys are trying to figure out how to make us pay online for the songs (that we been getting for free) and when they do they will close out the cdroms?

how many cdrom players are there in the world now that will be called junk when that happens?? :banghead:  :bsod:

I don't know where it's all going. They are talking about making movies that self destruct after 48 hours!

Keep in mind that this is what they are trying to do., whether or not it will happen remains to be seen. It makes sense though - them moving from charging hideous amounts of money for a $.05 piece of plastic to charging hideous amounts of money for a cent of bandwidth and storage you've already paid for.

And a far as dvds that selfdestruct - they tried to do that with video tapes a long time ago, but it never caught on. And lets not forget what a horrible failure divx was too, and I'm not talking about the codec. It tried to create a pay for play dvd system which would stop working after a certain number of views, just as the dvd format was getting popular. But few movies made it to divx, and nobody bought them, opting for regular dvds instead.

I find it's stupid, the self destruct thing. We already have enough problems these days with pollution, imagine everytime you rent a movie you throw some non biogradable plastic in the garbage. Sure there's the junk food bags and stuff already, but why add some more junk with it per movie viewing?!

I just think information should be free, end of story. The way the information is shown, is different, for example, if you want to watch a movie on a 50' screen with super good sound - you pay for it by going to the cinima, if you want to "listen to a cd" live, you go to the concert. So all these things already have ways of making tons of cash, while the actual product could be kept free, if they are that greedy they can put comercials in the middle of songs or something. j/k But I really don't like where the riaa is going.
