Yeah I heard this too. Japen has really cheap prices for high speed data circuits. I'd love to move there just so I can host my own server - on an OC512. :drull: Not only one server, many many many servers. I'd do something like tripod, but no insane popups, just ads (which users can choose where they want them) and then I'd also offer quality hosting for monthly fees and as well as dedicated hosting. Oh yeah! That would be so cool! I just like this whole server thing. I can't wait till I can afford another computer so I can play around with this stuff on my lan.

Yep, I remember when I first found out how cheap Internet access is in Japan. When (I should say "if") I move to Tokyo, I want to get a dedicated 100 Mbps line and run a FreeBSD server(s). B) 100 Mbps? :yo:  I would be so happy!

Although, Internet access is one of the few cheap things in Japan. :banghead: Tokyo is the most expensive city in the world to live in according to most figures.

Yeah, but with a little dedicated hosting plans, I'm sure you can get a nice house, instead of an apartement. Houses much be so expensive there though!

But I bet there must be a lot of competition for hosting though.

Hosting a few Web sites wouldn't be a bad idea I guess. I would wait until I feel experienced enough though. I also want some education about UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems.

Why would I need a house? I will probably be living alone. Besides, I would have to live outside the city centre for that. I would like a nice little apartment in a lively part of Tokyo. A small apartment will do. With that big city at my front door, I probably wouldn't be in my apartment much anyway. B)

This dude runs a FreeBSD server from his 100 Mbps Internet connection at his home 20 km from the centre of Tokyo. He is so lucky! :banghead: :banghead: He has a lot of good photos. B)

Man that must be sweet! I miss running a server. It was fun to have 100% control over everything. The setup I had sucked, but eventually I would of got something better. I really want a T3 though. It's probably about 28 gran per month, which is a "affordable" price (unlike fiber which ranges in the millions here). A T3 is 28 T1s, and comes up to about 45Mpbs. That would be a half decent connection for hosting 50 or so sites. And the hosting quality is what counts. I'd make sure that if I'm paying that much, that it's unlimited, so in that case I would provide unlimited transfer, or at least, very high. What's nice about hosting is that it's a source of income, it's a regular cash flow as people pay per month.
