I open mine almost every day. :P Various reasons, but usually to clean out dust, cat hair etc.

Yep. In fact, I opened it twice yesterday.

I don't bother screwing the side panel, the 3 screws are sitting in the corner inside the case. :P

Depends how many fans you got, and the airflow. If you have only a few fans but they are all blowing out the air, you will get dust all over, but if you have lot of fans, and most of them blowing in, you will get lot of dust, but only where the fans are (not everywhere). And with my cat, the dust get's thick too, mostly all cat hair that get's caught on the blades and spins with it.

wow only that much there red??

so little time you spend doing that.

i can and have opened mine up to 10 times in a day when they are in need of placing or adding in fans or drives or other stuff. :)

but mostly i just let it sit there no cat here and the dust is blown threw and out of the case with all the fans i have so it takes time to collect in it.

besides that thing is in the lower part of the desk behind a door and i have to move this big desk away from the wall to un hook the wires then slide the tower out the front and hoist that heavy thing up on the desk to open it. :(

and that stuff gets tired real fast.

We have a similar setup downstairs. Just to plug something, you need to turn off the PC, move the desk and go behind. It's horrible. I like the setup here as everything is easly accessed just like that. I have a section in my desk made for putting the tower in, but it's not well thought of as the location makes it impossible for standard cables to reach (mouse, keyboard, video and speakers especially)

Well , perhaps it depends on how old it is :P ,
I mean when you change the HD for a bigger one ,
you get more memory sticks or a new modem ,
guess I should also clean it !

I haven't opened this one yet, just got it in May/June. I cleaned the one I had before. Scary though, afraid I'll dislodge something!

I cleaned this old 486 once, it was scarry. Lot of cob webs and thick dust.

Mine gets worse though, I have 3 intake fans, and a cat, nuff said. :D

I used a can of air, which is awkward since you have to hold it upright and can't get to everything with the can in the upright position.

man, back at my internship, they had me pulling parts oout of some pretty nasty machines. The worst were the old IBMs - 386s and 486s. We had dozens upon dozens of these little terminal boxes I had to go through with ventalation holes all down the sides - and these things were usually used in dusty wharehouses and such - so we're talking carpets of dust probably about a cm thick or so, and I had process dozens and dozens of those. I actualyl got to the point that I was breathing in so much of that dust my snot was turning black - icky.

I used canned air too. It was neat to play with. The can would start freezing at the bottom. :yo:

Where can I get little filter things that go over the fans to keep them from sucking dust in? :)

I don't know, but it seems like a good idea. As long as you don't forget to clean it, that is....

I remember someone mentioning something like that before.

Yes, it would have to let the air move freely and still catch any dust. ;)
