I am using TMPGEnc and man is this going to take a while. I think all in all, just under 10 hours to convert it to an mpeg2. Why you ask? To make an SVCD to play on my girlfriends DVD player. She just got a super nice one that plays everything, dvd, dvd-r/rw /mp3's /svcd/vcd/dvcd..... and I actually watched House of a 1000 corpses on a VCD and it looked just fine.

   :banghead:

no i do not know of any.

but one question how big is your hard drive and what is the size of your processer and how much ram do you have.

as you have seen it is going to be a long time to number crunch the avi's

it has been suggested and very well found out by many that you need to have a spare hard drive of about 80 gb's that is empty you then convert the avi to the mpg and save the mpg on the empty hd. that will give you room for your files also you need to tweak your system for the type of use your doing.

i would get xteq-setup from their site or from majorgeek.com and tweak your system to handle the lager stacks or bursts and make it work faster by turning off items you dont need.

also there is a way with that program to make the exe that is running in front of all others. to be allowed to run at realtime, that will help.

i would even disconnect from the net, and shut off the firewall the av, and anything else that you run when online. you should use only the basic programs that windows uses and what ever is used by the converting program,

that will help a lot. then if you can get in to the bios on the computer i would also try and find out how on the bios of that computer to turn up the cpu speed by one notch.. but not any faster i use the + or - 5% or 25% on mine.

good luck. be very careful when speeding up the cpu in the bios. :no no no:

Guest wrote: my bios sucks. If I could OC, i'd be doing it by now. It can handle an 800mhz cpu, but right now I am running a 667, and im not going to waste money on 133mhz more.

BTW, I am sick of windows and I am going to search for a linux tool. this machine has been running

Code: Select all

[wldkos@localhost wldkos]$ uptime
 00:56:10 up 4 days, 28 min,  3 users,  load average: 0.18, 0.35, 0.29
and it seems like a fresh reboot on windows every second I am on here. Linux is amazing.
:o that is what i was wanting to find out. your using too small of cpu no matter what os you use.

if you want to use that small cpu then you are going to have to shut off all other stuff and not do anything on the computer for 4 days untill it can crunch all the info. it is not the fault of the windows program this time.

it is the lack of horse power under yur hood.

if you can get more ram get it. if not then i would suggest upgrading the mother board and cpu.

you can get a good cheap board and cpu from www.tigerdirect.com they use new boards and not rebuilt ones.

the one i just got for the windows Me computer is the "shuttle ak32a v2.1 " and a amd 1.4ghz cpu and a cooling fan all for 130 us dollars + - 5 us dollars.

i am sure you can find one for your needs. but that duron i got would be far better then the small one your trying to use.

i put the old 266 hrs p 2 off line and the old p3 600 is at mom and dads where all they need it for is email and online games at cartoon network for the grand kids. and offline. and i took the amd 900 out of the winMe computer so now all the computers here that do a lot of heavy work are above the 1.0 ghz range.

with over 220 mb's of ram.

if you dont want to buy new dram now that is ok as the mb i said above uses both sdram and ddram so you can use either or both.

 :awesome:

but ya need a bigger hoss thar partner.

and a couple of feed bags (hd's) would be good also.

:roflmao2: :D B)

I think I just ran out of room. I have 192 mb of ram but I am working on 512. And when I get a new computer it's going to be way over 2.0 ghz ;)

Speaking of space, that 120GB hard drive will come in handy. Still did not get it yet though. hopefully I will soon though so I can send you it. :)
