Interesting concept, the only problem would be imagine a virus that spreads on connections like this. The kind of connection that say, runs your PowerGrid would also run your computer's internet, thus, in the early inception would be quite vulnerable to attacks. Now, one little mistake, and you've not only knocked out internet access, but you've also knocked out someone's electricity. It's great that they're trying to expand like that, but the risks should be addressed from the get go, so that we don't wind up with items like my hypothetical event.

What I wonder too is how they will get a device such as a modem to use 120VAC as protocol, that's deadly for any electronics so it will need to be specially converted to whatever voltage Ethernet is to connect it. Also, I wonder how it will be controlled, or if just anyone can buy a modem and instantly have the net - ISP's would loose money.
