I chose PC, since you can do more with them (it's not only for Windows, you can put Linux etc etc...)

i chose pc too. although, you can put linux on a mac (ppc version), hardware alternatives are still more abundant for pc's and macs still cost more money than a pc with the same specs. but macs are great computers, don't get me wrong. i'm just poor.

Yeah macs are pretty cool, I just don't have the cash either, and if I do, I rather get a high end PC instead of a normal mac for the same price. But I'd like a mac for video editing though, they are better for that type of stuff.

I am not going to vote since I am not around Macs on a daily basis.
I would love to get a Mac. I would prefer to build my own computer though. Actually, I would prefer to have both!

that would be cool. i actually posted a link to a site at the pit that sold kits for building your own mac. i just recently heard though that they stopped due to they're supplier wasn't supposed to be shipping mac parts since it was a mac repair shop. that place is looking for another supplier right now. too bad, that would have been a pretty interesting project.

Yeah that would be cool. That's the thing with macs, you can't do much with them hardware wise, compared to PCs.

Even though Macs max computer says 1.0g it's far time faster then that. They make the chip to be more efficient make them light years ahead of pc prossers. plus you can put windows on macs( I shere you new that). I do wish they were cheaper.

yeah. but just because opening up the specs worked for us and ibm when ibm did it, doesn't mean it will work for us or apple if apple did it. so it's pretty much gonna be apple having their little niche.

I heard of someone who had installed windows 98 on a mac... I wonder how that was done, maybe just an emulator though.

red, all editing software is the same. i just spent 3 weeks editing on a mac using Final Cut Pro3 and media 100. I'd rather be using a PC for it,since the price and compatibility with macs are just too high and not supported enough. I dont like the idea of classical mode, as opposed to "legacy", but I will admit that macs are super nice ( on the outside as well as in) and stable. Most people don't know how to fully use their macs though.

Yeah I heard final cut pro is pretty good, there's this other one used for comercial use for macs. What I hate about editing under Windows is that it will sometimes crash for no reason, and it's so SLOW!! Takea about 5 hours to render a 15 minute movie in decent res for a TV at full quality.

yep I know final cut pro 3 basically inside out. Very nice program.
It's just preferance, that is all I can say. AVID makes the same program as FCP, just for windows.

I tried avid, and to be honest, I did not like it, I found it less "workable" than other programs I've used such as premiere. What I did not like about Avid was that I could not drag video sections around, cut, etc. I would import it, it would drop it in, and that's where it goes and stays. I like moving things around more, cutting sections etc... but like you said it's just preference.

On an avid? I dont know about that my friend. I haven't used an avid personally, but they are the industry standard for editing PC wise. You have to get certified to use one!

??? Im unsure of what you mean. AVID makes editing software, the best in the world for a PC. Avid Also makes complete systems for their software, therefore making it an Avid. Im not sure what you were referring to, but I know I have rarely heard bad things about an AVID, and if I did, the person couldn't handle it.Red Squirrel wrote: No, the Windows program called Avid

Maybe I'm thinking of a different program though, but I'm pretty sure it was called Avid. It did not even have any transitions or anything, it was like windows 3.1 style GUI with weird drag and drop into cement lol. Must of been another app then.
Ulead is not bad, but it's BUGGY!!
Pinnacle is not advanced enough for me, but premiere seems to fit my needs, and it's what I use.

Yeah premiere has it's up's and downs much like anything and any editing program. i know that You are not thinking of the avid that I am, since avid has around 25+ ways to edit and drag and drop something onto the timeline
I use Ulead Media studio pro and it worked great even before I knew how to take advantage of it. Now I know final cut inside out, and I can't wait to edit on MSP again.

I still like Ulead more feature wise, but given the size of some of the video's I've edited, Ulead crashes too much on me. just clicking at the wrong place at the wrong time would take down the whole PC. Once,it would not open the saved file nomore. That was freaky, but a reboot fixed it. fheeew!

i can fumble my way around a mac, with it's less than intuitive interface and it's unibutton mouse, or i can jump on linux on a pc, and get the same stability, and less headaches.
i choose pc.
as far as software goes, if you buy software for a pc with windows, you buy software for a pc with windows.
none of this "must have os 10.2 or higher" bs. how much is apple knocking off license fees by requiring only the latest software to run new programs??
with mac you pay and pay and pay.
i choose pc.
hardware. with a pc platform i choose the hardware i want. then i build it.
none of the mac bs where you have to buy the hardware apple wants you to buy.
i choose pc.
with a sun computer, i can run solarus or linux.
with a SGI i can run unix, or nt.
with a mac computer i can run mac os or linux.
with a pc i can run darwin, or any flavor of linux, or freebsd, unix proper,
or anything from windows 95 to windows xp and more.
the obvious choice is pc.

I've found alot better than ULEAD. I'll have to get the name again, though.
As for the MAC vs Windows, I like both... heck, you can run Windows using emulation software on a MAC and you can even run Linux on your MAC. That said, you can also do both on a Windows Box (though emulation of MAC OS is quite limited, unless you already own a older-mac, and even then the PowerPC processor is not supported.). However, the G5 and last-year's wide screen Imac really get my attention. I've seen the Imac in action running Final Cut Pro and I've seen the kind of videos it puts out.... I'm impressed.
Edit: I finally realized there was a first and second page to this thing, so after reading the first page I noticed Red's post about AVID. I have seen AVID used as a stand-alone app, and you just have to really know the software in and out. As for a Windows 3.x GUI, the version I saw didn't have that old of a GUI.
