I heard this new version of IBF is out and has great features including an integrated quick reply and lots of other cool features.
We don't really have that many mods, most mods are electronic security check points that can easly be added after.
Only problem is, I'd have to redo the whole skin again!!!
But I heard the skinning section has been reorganized and made easier to use.
Maybe there is a way to convert the skin, not sure.
Just want everyone's opinions on this. I will be waiting a few weeks that way if there's any major bugs they may get fixed. IPS are pretty good for that stuff.
I'm pretty sure it will support the same database, so we won't have to restart. I doubt they would put people in that situation.
So let me know what you think!

You might want to check into it further and make sure it will meet your requirements.

lol and it would take twice as long to gain back the same posts lol.
Thinking of it, it's never happened to us before. Only when we switched from Yabb to IB, and really, I could of converted the old yabb to the SQL one then convert it to IB since I think there's a converter. I had never thought of it.
Even all the disasters such as loosing our dedicated server, the database was never lost.
Scarry part is though, the database is getting to a point where it times out before it has a chance to upload, so methinks in the future we might be screwed if ever we need to restore it.

I think I will go with the upgrade, basicly want user input, but it's basically something that will affect me more, and I think it's a good idea to keep up with the times. I'll wait a few weeks for more news (bugs found etc) and then go for it. If I do it right, we should not have more than a minute of forum downtime.

That is SO comforting.

I'm currentlyl downloading it and I'll be installing it on my
private server (need to put essence on that for Mart... tattle tails
)
It's still in beta but they are confident enough to release it on the 15th, so I doubt there's much bugs, but I'll still wait about a week later to actually redo the skin if I need to do that. I just wonder if that money mod they are working on will work on this version, if not, the people working on it are sort of screwed over! I'd be pissed in their position!

Wow this is sweet! It can reconize googlebot and other popular search bots. There's so much more options in the new one it's great!

There's also an option to let certain users have other group's access rights, for example, I can create a bunch of access rights, but still keep the user in the same group. So if I would put hidden forums, I would not need to put the user in a group that has access to that forum, I can just switch the actual user's access rights. Sort of like vBulletin.
I just hope I won't have to redo the skin though...

Ouch, I know for sure that I won't be able to import my current skin! So I'll have to reskin it from scratch, and the new version has so much more templates.
But the way they put it might make it a little easier, in each category I can check the templates I want to edit and have all of them layed out, so I can sort of see what I'm doing from one template to the next, especially for the ones that have the start, body and foot of a table such as topic views.
In this process I might do other changes to the skin, and I might actually decide to do it all, even the mod cp and all. Don't expect it done any time soon though, this summer will be a crazy one. But maybe I'll have time before july, that's when I'll be taking summer school to try to pass math. Turns out I'll have to take the same one I failed, so I'll probably keep failing it, it's just so hard and stressfull. I don't know why I need it to take computers. People tend to think computers and math go together, but that is false. Computers do the math FOR you!

I just decided something, this version is fine, I'll keep it. I might end up deciding to switch it, but it's not on my priority list. Most of the new options are simply enhancements, and more admin options that, while they might be handy, they are not essensial.
So officially, this version is here to stay, but some day I might just decide to redo the skin and suddently upgrade without notice, but don't expect it any time soon. Got too many things on the go these days. Maybe I'll feel like it once school is over and that I know for sure what my plans for summer are, righ now I just too stressed about my future and stuff. Never realized failing one lousy course could change my future. Lot of planing and thinking to do.

We are ok here, Red. You need to concentrate on your education first.

Yes, I agree. Your education is very important.
When school starts, Red is going to have to lock me out of here....
I will probably spend too much time here and not study! Although, I probably will need him to help me with my French.
He's the only French speaker I know of besides the teacher I am going to have.

Yep, and we have quite a few mods - some I forget what they are.
Mods as in modifications.

yep, it's a fact. I've installed a bunch of small mods that don't do much, but they still do something. One in particular is the one that does not force avatars to stay one size, which prevents pixalation on smaller ones. There's also the bump topic mod and some others. Not to mention my security mods I have...
