No, it's not what you think, not going dedicated yet.
But I am upgrading my lan to gigabit and part of that upgrade is installing a new nic in the server. This will have no effect on the shard's performance, though it will make backups faster, decreasing the period of lag during these backups. The switch upgrade will be done tonight but should be seamless, at worse you will get disconnected.

switch upgrade done. Did it DC you? It should not have since the server was actually plugged in the main switch already, and only the 2ndary one was changed. Though with playing around with cables it could of caused a DC. Should be all up now though, tell me if it's not.

NIC upgrade underway, may need to reconfigure network programs if the nic name changes, as well. Assuming the nic works in linux this won't take too long, but buying it was simply a risk, no way of knowing if it will work or not till I try it.
Keep in mind this upgrade will have little to know effect on the shard only local server usage.

nic not changed, well its in the server but not active. It won't work in FC5 but when I feel bothered I'll try to see if i can get it working, but it probably involves a kernel recompile.
