Maybe someone who is using windows 95 or 98 will have more to say. Win2k has been rock solid for me. If I don't count that virus I stupidly opened from kazaa, I have not cleaned installed once since I built this PC! :)

XP has been a great OS for me. I wouldn't have had to do any reinstalls if it weren't for my mistakes. Those mistakes I made shouldn't happen with average computer users though. B)

What are you talking about? WinME is a great OS! So is NT and CE.

If you do a tripple boot, you get Windows® CEMENT™. As hard as a rock and as dumb as a brick.

well I despise how everything and it's mom has to be loaded at startup in windows and only at startup. Every bloody program on the face of the earth has to modify or install some kind of bloody component that windows jsut cannot live without, even for a second, so everyhintme you install or uninstall something you have to restart you system, which is a real pain in the butt considering that 2k is actually stable and I generally don't restart but about once a week or so.

I HATE that. I don't like to restart because the things cached will disappear... :banghead:

I would use Mac OS X as an alternative, but I don't have the money for one of those Macs. ()

just wanted to add the the 'restart' rant. 1) I almost always have some kind of downlaod or somethign running in the background, and it's a pain in the :censored: to stop it, try to find it again and restart it, just because some stupid program demanded a restart. 2) a good portion of the problems I've had with my computer occur on startup.. particularly with windows not booting and my system restarting half way though startup.. and particularly wiht manul restarts

so for example, just a few minutes ago. I unistalled flashget... it requireda restart. So I have to stop a torrent download, and a pretty big one at that, when I was finally getting a good speed. close all that :(. restart computer. my computer restarts mid windows load after the second attempt at a cold boot I get it going again, and now I can't restart the torrent because the website I downloaded the starter file from is down now, and since I only downloaded it as a temp file, it's off my hard drive, so I can't start it that way. ugh.

Having to restart for every bloody change is sure a piss off. And startup programs, win98 is not so bad since you can disable them through msconfig or the registry, task manager or startup folder (depending on where it is) but win2k, those "services" are a real pain. And those "non services" that still start from out of no where. Get a virus and you're screwed. Not only that, but programs have the ability to avoid from being shut down through task manager, so virus writters can make it so it says "access denied". That's a real pia! Only way is to stop it from loading at startup, but if it's not a service, and that it's not in the startup folder, or the registry, you're screwed!

Clean install time!

Oh, installing Windows. Don't you just hate that how you have to "Baby sit" the computer while it's installing? You can just start the install and go to bed, because about ever 10 minutes it asks for some information of some sort! Can't they just gather all the information in one shot? geez!!!
I demand to have Linux standardlized!

Yeah what is the deal with that bloody install. And not only do you have make some kinf of action every 5 min, it has to restart half way in to load windows so it can finsish the stupid install. Sure if you really want to you can go get administrator tools and setup an unattended install, but doing that ain't all that fun either, and you kinda need to be running windows to make the stupid files anyway.

Now let's proceed with Windows XP activation. That's a real pain as well! It's pretty bad when you need cracks even if you own a legit copy! I mean, who wants to call Microsoft to ask permission to install a new video card?! LOL I'm just glad win2k does not have that activation crap!

Sometimes I question the sanity of microsoft execs. I mean fighting piracy by annoying legit customers to the point where they result to piracy just because copy protection methods are such a pain in the butt? Makes you wonder if microsoft really made win2k, with all the crap that came before and after... MS is definietely passed it prime

Yeah, Win2k is so different. I bet it's the open source community that made it.

oh but it is, if you're the chinese government... yeah, give another government the source code to your os so they can see exactly where you're security flaws are and where security flaws may exist but haven't been found yet. yeah, no possible national security breach here even though the military and government agencies use m$ products...

anyway, my main rant for microsoft today is, why the hell are they still using the butterfly guy? someone do a ritual killing on the guy, please!!! :good2bad: :letsfight:

you know really, out of the major computer os companies now a days microshaft has the worst commercials! it used to be apple had the worst commercials and microshafts were alright. ibm had, and still does, imo, have the best commercials on tv. the friggin' butterfly needs to die along with jar jar binks and the ewoks! :letsfight:
