Anything Forums

Since I am running my website off my home computer... is google going to find it? ANd how do I make better results come up? I havent added any meta keywords and i really do not want to. Should I though? When I type in "the world chaos forum" nothing comes up for a good 10 pages if that! Some suggestions would be nice.

You need to submit it to google (just the home page) and it will follow the links. It takes a while for it to be listed though. But sometimes it's fast, it depends. Google spidered almost every post here about a month ago, and still, they're not there yet. Chances are it spidered your site as well trough your sig.

In your apache logs, do a search for "googlebot" and it will give you an idea of what pages got spidered.

I have a script that automaticly logs stuff with "bot" as the user agent, and as well as other informative stuff.

Just a tip, open it in like word pad or something and do a search for "googlebot" and keep hitting F3 to go to next and it will give you an idea how often it passes, and if it passes at all.

It seems that google is the only free big search engine to let you list your site. Mamma, hotbot and lycos want money for that, from what I have seen.

But today, I did add a whole bunch of meta tags to my site, even on the forum part and Im getting very little hits from google bot, but the meta tags now tell it to continue past the first page, onto the forum

just a reminder, google does NOT read meta tags, it simply reads the content. That's what makes it accurate, as people abuse meta tags and put anything they want. It's still good to have them since other search engines only rely on those, but not google.

Also, hotbot does not charge I don't think... they are often spidering this site and listing it.

And since I put the google adsense thing, the bot has been on alot. Maybe a coincidence though, not sure.

oh ok, Well I really just want google to spider the forum more... I have only got one hit from it in my bot logs.


But in the meta tags, it says to revist after 4 days or something.

google takes a while at first, but once it has your site up in the listings it should visit more often. It spiders here at least once a week, and lately it's been on non stop. It always takes a while for crawls to go in the search results though.
