Hmm, seems the server is getting intermittent hits, it goes down for a few seconds then back up.
I bet I go there and someone is plugging the coffee maker in that overloaded surge strip again!

That was happening today too.
I was just at the pit and saw the same thing happen though!

Red, I don't understand this...
What are intermittent hits? Is it Canadian slang?
It seems like I have been out in the dark all day today!

It means hits that cause the server to die or degrade and come back.
We use it in telecommunications a lot.
Kind of like when you unplug the city's ATM router, any high speed circuits get "intermittant hits". I spelled it like 3 different ways so yeah, I'm not sure how to spell it.

Thanks.
Does this make me look less geeky?

Not quite, but knowing this telecommunication stuff does make you extra geeky. Especially when people talk about RD6 radios, microwave dishes, Cisco optic transports, IMT 150 fibre transport, manny sillies such as FOTS (fibre optic transport system), SONET (I don't know that one
), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and that you know what the heck they are talking about!
Knowing how to use these makes you pure geek. I'm not there yet. I know how to disconnect them, but that's it.
They gave me access to this terminal login that can do anything, without showing me how to use half the stuff, they just told me to be careful.
So if you hear anything about Ontario's telecommunications suddently going down, it's probably me not being careful.
