Hey all,

I'm sure everyone is aware that there are great tech sites out there to help you with your Windows problems, but sometimes you just can't fix it even with their help and you wind up doing what Red would do almost weekly with his Win98 desktop, you format. Now, this is oft a waste of your time, and occaisionally you sacrifice documents you've typed, custom settings and transmitted e-mail only to have the problem come back a short while later and then you're back at square one.

Next time Windows is giving you a fuss, head down to your local software shop and pick up a copy of Symantec's Norton Utilities (a.k.a Norton SystemWorks) and try running DiskDoctor and WinDoctor. These should solve most any problems you're having with Windows, as I know one of my friends was in a near-critical situation and running WinDoctor basically saved his computer, and the small cost you incurr will be minor compared to the time saved from not formatting. Honestly, give Symantec a shot, you Windows users out there.

Yep win9x has a lot of problems. :dosgonebad:

i had the mcafee nuts and bolts programs suite and found that only a few of the programs in it were any good.

such as their diskminder and imager

but they dont transfer to winxp so i cant use them with out buying the newer version but i found win xp is not as messed up as win9x was.

even the ms scandisk could not handle some errors in win9x systems

you need a bigger disk scanning program for partition errors that forever seem to be happening in win9x

and that is the thing that ryan just posted about with out realizing it.

"the scandisk from ms is not very good, go and get norton."

that is the same thing you said just shorter :D

i had mcafee but norton is good and there are others.

that were and are liked for use with the win9x systems but if your planing to get winxp check online at the site for the software your thinking of buying to see if it is going to be a smooth move in to the xp system of if you should buy a different one to work with winxp. B)
