Day Of Horrors

:biglaugh: What a day! First, like I had to do, I uninstalled this installation of php (bundle that installs and configures it all for me, saving me days of hard work) since I think it's the cause of all the parse errors and crap like that.

Anyway, like anything having to do with destroying, the uninstall went fine, did not forget to backup the database (remembered when I was at the "are you sure" of the uninstall pr ocess :bsod: ) so blah blah...

Then I downloaded php4 and apache, followed the installation for php (apache installed like a brease, it now takes me 5 minutes to fully configure it after all these times of doing it!) but php was horrible. Nothing worked. I tried about 5 different combinations of versions (apache 1.3 apache 2 etc) of apache and php. Always ended up with the same errors at the end.

So I tried a different bundle which had good reviews from the tech support for this board, which is pretty good as they reply pretty quick, and it did not work (not even apache would) and then another bundle, it turned out to be a normal php installation package!

So I decided (it was past midnight) to just call for quits and install back easy php. Knowing (more like, thinking) it would work, I configured everything etc etc.... open up apache ILLEGAL OPERATION NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

So I could not take it anymore, I went in Dos mode, formated the drive and now the server is on a new installation of Windows. I feel like keeping it this way, but my parants would freak to find out there's no emails or that ms word does not work on the computer, so I'll have to finish installing all their junk in there unfortunatly. I did not even bother installing the administration ftp server that me and Windstalker use to check logs and occasionally exchange some warez psssst, I did not say that. :biglaugh:

Anyway, here we are, back to the old drawing board! If I see another dreadful parse error again, I'll I'll I'llll :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
But I'm expecting them. I can't see what is different then before.

On the postive side of all this. I now know that my way of backing up and restoring mysql databases works! As you can see, we did not loose anything!

Hackers, take your best shot on our server! Good luck, our buggy ftp server is not even installed yet. :roflmao2: This is also known to be the most secure message board software available.

Anyway, this is it, that's what I did all day. I did managed to make myself some easy mac in between though, and I did watch a movie that I almost told nah, you can watch it alone, to my mom, but I needed the break. And I needed to think up of a way to make myself a few hudred bucks to buy a good stand alone server, by stand alone I mean that I can install the OS I want and truely configure it as server ONLY!

If you see any errors, please report them, and the aproximate time and time zone when it occured. I will get mad, but not at you, so don't worry. I rather not get any reports and know that it's because there's no errors then not get reports because you are scared to send them. :biglaugh:

I do get pissy when stuff like this happends, but I want all of you to remember that I don't want to take it on any of you. You are a friendly bunch and have encouraged me a lot in this process. You guys rock!
I don't regret my move from Other Tech Sites to PC411 and now IceTeks one bit, the way I did it might of not been that great (though, my Other Tech Sites clone page is very popular - I get about 10 or so 404 requests per day!) but the fact that I stood for myself and did not let them walk over me was good. We would not be where we are now (ok, scratch the php problems off that list, it's not something to be happy about:)).

Ok, I'm just babling on now.... I hope everyone is happy even though the upgrade failed. Don't forget to report any problems you get on the forum, or any Reliexec site for that matter.
