I will be taking down the server for some required preventative maintenance. I also need to make a firewall change on the database server which could threaten the SQL connectivity so I will do that at the same time while shard is down. Basically I need to image the shard server and DB server so that in the event of a catastrophic failure I have a base working OS to go on and only need to restore data.

This downtime will last about 1 to 2 hours. I will post here and broadcast in game when I'm about ready to start.

I am going around my entire network doing this type of maintenance as it is overdue and the shard will be last.

Note: Time was previously 3pm, It has been postponed to midnight.

Server is now down for maintenance!

Will keep this thread updated with progress. ETA is 2 hours, but I'm hoping it will be less time than that.

This is still ongoing. Taking longer than I hoped so I might end up using or even exceeding the 2 hour maintenance window.

One image says ETA 29 minutes and other says 3 hours. But once the 29 minute one finishes the other should speed up.

Sorry to say, this could be a while, numbers keep changing on me.

One is at 47 minutes, other is at 3 hours.

Good news is I think the firewall changes I had to make worked fine, I'll know for sure when I bring everything back up.

Shard VM is now done. Waiting for database server to finish, it should go faster now. ETA changed to 6 minutes, but I'm not counting on that just yet. Err it just changed to 1 hour and 21 minutes. lol.

This is taking much longer than anticipated. It's still going. I will give it another 45 minutes to an hour and if it's still not done I will have to go to bed as I have to get up early tomorrow.

Yep think that's what I'm going to do, was hoping it would speed up but it's not even half way yet. I should be able to bring the shard back up by 11am tomorrow.

Funny since that VM is not even that large, no idea what's causing it to take so long to image.

Shard is now back online!

And this is probably a record downtime for AoV... sorry about that! Thankfully this is not a routine thing, the OS does not really change much so now that I got the base image of both servers I don't really have to do it again.
