I wanted something that can run my server equipment for hours, not minutes. So I found an inverter-charger on ebay (made by Tripp Lite) and bought a couple batteries:



I may be adding more as they are so cheap for the power they give. The current setup as is will run 300w for about 5 hours. I did not hook it up to my production stuff yet, I still need to do some changes such as get some kind of battery enclosure. Thinking a Tupperware container with some vents cut into it. A hydrogen sensor is also a great idea for piece of mind.

Oh wow that's my old setup, it's much better now.







Newer pics of server rack:


in order:
- DIN rails for home automation/monitoring stuff
- Shelf with relay controller and arduino board
- firewall.loc: Firewall
- hal9000.loc: Home automation server


- borg.loc: main server (need to retire this and migrate stuff off it) Runs DNS and email and few other things. Was originally my VM server too.
- moria.loc: VM server - AoV is hosted on there, with rest of my stuff
- isengard.loc: File server / NAS. VMs and other data reside here




- two IBM SAN enclosures that I don't really use
- eagle.loc and falcon.loc: My two workstations, one is Windows for gaming, the other is Linux. This setup is brand new. Cables run upstairs to my office. Did this to reduce noise, heat and dust.

The back is not as nice as the front... Though it was once much worse.








Still have lot of plans to do such as enclose the server room walls and add hvac system, and want to upgrade battery backup system to 48v dual conversion, but for now I stopped spending money.
