Gaining Provoke

I know this is a pig of a skill to gain, but need some advise on it....
I am at 100 provoke and 100 music (was 120 music but dropped it to 90 as advised on the net for gains)
I have 90 "spare points" and the skill they are in is turned down.
Provoke is turned up.
(Stupidly i dont have any points left on the skill gain deed, this is one of my first chars i made, and i went to town and used the whole deed up without thinking a few points might come in handy later on)

I started by running around making Dragons and Drakes dance, did this for approx 4 hours and never gained a thing.....Not even a sniff of a skill gain...

So, then i stripped my suit back and took off all the barding enhancements.
Went back and spent a whole eveing making the dragons dance, not a single 0.1, nothing.......

Back to the net and found the "stick 2 monsters on seperate boats and provoke safely"
I put 2 Hiryu's on seperate boats and provoked those 2 over and over, again not a thing nothing....
I have swapped between exceptional instruments, shop bought ones, and opposite slayer ones....still nothing, not a bean.....

This is my third day of trying to gain in provoke past 100, am i missing something?
I would have thought Dragons would let me gain past 100, and Hiryu's too, although i did notice the barding difficulty of the Hiryu is 70 on this server which seems lower than the 80 that other websites mention.

I remember the early days of UO when we would all crowd around the sheep pens at yew and provoke the sheep to GM the skill........
Obviously we have moved on since those days, but what are the rules for gaining provoke?
Is it difficulty based, amount of targets, fail or success based.......

Cheers all.........

Yeah, should have saved that char skill gain deed. :)
What you were doing sounds like it should work, but skill gain when maxxed out is a lot tougher than when you're not.

I can hook you up with skill gain deeds though for this one.

On a similar line....
Lets say my skill for provoke is at 120 (real skill)
Does wearing jewelery that boosts you past 120 give any benefit?
Or anything after 120 makes no difference at all?

Anything after 120 makes no difference at all.

Unless maybe you got discorded by a satyr?
But basically, no.

You cannot surpass 120 skill through items that give +music skill. The instrument that you use as well as music skill, however, will allow you to amplify your skill bonus.

If you use an exceptional or slayer instrument at 120 skill, it will have an impact over 120 skill as you gain a bonus to your skill, which you cannot see.
