We have winter, it's just usually kind of short, and snow seldom falls. I wouldn't want a blizzard any more than I'd want a tornado or a hurricane though.

Blizzards are nothing compared to tornados and hurricanes.

At the end, you might have to shovel but at least you get to keep your house. :P

Perhaps, then, it is location based...a few feet of snow here would mean mass power outages, people driving poorly on poor roads, etc, etc. The last time we got feet of snow (1993, 30 inches), there were numerous deaths and injuries from car accidents, people freezing because of no heat, hunger and so on and so on.

We are poorly prepared. Always. Lesson always unlearned.

Although, you are right, a tornado would be worse, depending on its intensity. And hurricanes very rarely get to north Georgia and maintain hurricane intensity. Only once that I can remember...we'll get tropical storm intensity sometimes though.

Actually it's something I always think of but never do, I'd need to prepare better for a mass power outage. Generator and transfer switch is a good idea at least to get the furnace running. Mind you, the last major power outage we had was in 2003 durring that big blackout in summer, and it was only about half a day. In winter that would probably be enough to have pipes start to freeze, though you can just let the water run and should be ok depending on time of year and how long the outage is.

Funny you should mention blizzards. We had a big one last night and my work's closed so I feel just like a kid and a snow day right now, sipping my morning tea at the computer.
