might have to go back to the crappy low bandwidth server

I totally bombed my Cisco exam. I'm pretty sure I won't pass which means I won't be able to get a job and I can't afford to pay 180 bucks a month for a whole year without a job. So the server might have to be moved back to the crappy DSL it was originally on. With any more then 10 people at once and it becomes unplayable, not to mention it will go down a lot as the connection is unreliable and fluctuates a lot.

The only good news out of this is I won't take it offline so AoV will still exist.

Unless people start donating on a regular basis, then I can keep it on the dedicated server. Once exams are over I want to add more donation items.

I'll check for an exact figure, but I'd say I'm about 100$ in the hole per month. I have google adsense on Iceteks.com which brings in an average of 80 per month, though lately internet ads have been less paying. It's a very fluctuating market.

Anyone can, you'd be more then welcome to. If you want to keep the item for if ever you manage to come back you could still add it to your account.

It sounds like you are trying to get a networking IT job? Why not just go into software tech support or software quality assurance? You can always switch from that to whatever inside the company in a year or so, I see it happen all the time. It seems tech support is the gateway to get your foot in and it pays pretty well too.

Yeah what I was going towards was mostly IT admin, so servers and such mostly. Not a lot of choices where I live though. Cisco curiculum is probably more advanced then what a typical IT person will ever have to work with, not to mention most of the curriculum stuff is very outdated. We hardly talk about things like fiber, but talk a lot about ISDN and BRI and stuff like that, all the old legacy stuff, which also happens to be rather complex when they start asking you very specific questions.

But if worse comes to worse and I fail I'll probably just try to get my PC support business up and going again. A local business in town closed down so I may have a better customer base. Though this is not really enough money to live off of unless I get super good web design contracts or something.

As for the server, I'll wait and see what happens. If I pass then it means I can get a job any time, so even if it takes a few months, at least I know I won't be jobless for a whole year.

I'll see what I can do. I just got a new job myself, so perhaps donating more often isn't out of the question.
