For the future you should not make skill deeds on new chars. Well give two 50 deeds or one 50 deed so the people would be willing to buy them. The hardest part for most people is starting a new char. IF I can make a char today and solo a champ the same day then why would I donate. I dont need the ethy because I have a horse for each char.
Don't get me wrong I love it. I use the horses all the time. I have never been one to care what ethy I rode in on. However I did pay 40 bucks for a kir-in donation on demise. MOst of the people on demise by skill balls because it is so hard to raise skills for most people. They banned Easyuo just to make it harder. I never bought a skill ball or a stat ball because I enjoy training them. I made 4 tamers on Demise. Demise makes money on donations because they make it so hard to do it.
Sad but true. If you stop giving ethys and skill deeds now the ones people have gain value and when they are gone you can gain cash
$$$$
Its simple. Yes you sold a reptalon to Doc because he could not find a blue lesser Hyriu.
For donation say 5 bucks make a pet color deed. It allows you to dye a pet some unigue colors or sell a special dye with say 5 uses that dyes pets. You could have it work like a dye tub. What ever is easier. But think of the possiblities. Seziure pink Cu running after you. Awsome. Have an ancient Wyrm that is Forest green. Hell I would buy that today.
I told you if you want suggestions on donation items I am full of them.

Yeah I was thinking that too. The skill deeds were really mostly just to help get the shard started but now at this point it may be a good idea to remove them. Same with the ethy considering vet rewards are faster here anyway. I remember on demise you had to be at least 360 days or something for an ehy but I got the dialog here within 90 days maybe even before, can't remember.

I think something i would pay for would be random arty deeds
also i already dontated for pet bonding deeds and a seahorse
maybe also something to stimulate the donation is to make the boxes worth something too like turn in 20 empty gift boxes and get a cool item make it a blessed deed or a insurable bag of sending something cool but not too powerful
so not only would people donate to get their own boxes but they could trade for other folks empties to get a set.
well i hope to donate more in the future once i start my new job in July
holden
Vulk etc

That would be cool, but just not sure exactly what I'd put in the dungeon. But if someone can come up with something I could definately do this. The donation item could be a deed that teleports you there. It would have everything you need to camp it as long as you want, such as a bank, a safe log out zone, tailor, smith (if you want to get bods too or something)
I removed skill deeds and the ethy from when new players get created. I also jacked up some prices on the specialty vendor as those items were originally put there before they were donation items. The specialty dealer is nothing but a gold sink. if someone has millions with nothing to do with then it can be worth buying those items.
I'm also working on a lrc-suit-in-a-bag item that I will place in there but it's cheaper to make your own suit with better mods. This will be a generic suit where each piece equals up to 100 lrc and the talisman will have 5 mr. So people may even buy it just for that. Again, just a gold sink item.

Instead of allowing a person to camp it, just simply have a moongate at the end that once walked through, will teleport them out of the dungeon and return the deed to their packs. The only way to get into the dungeon would be to HAVE that deed, so while you're in the dungeon, the deed gets removed but when you exit it, you get the deed back. Think of it as a one way ticket.

I was thinking about the donation issue today. I WANT to donate, but the gifts are nothing that I really need or want. Tonite I will probably donate for a mil, not that I need the gold or anything, but its the best item out of the available options.
Here are my ideas on items I would be willing to donate for:
7th Anniversary items. You could buy the 7 pack for like $15 on osi. Those were some really helpful items. Even if you don't offer the weapons or armor, the purple plant is worth having. And the Hearth of the Home Fire or whatever it was called was pretty cool too.
I would be more than willing to donate for the purple plant, and for an orange plant that works in the same way.
I would be willing to donate for Fort Powder too.
Maybe make a newbie starting kit - blessed starter armor(a suit with about 50LRC, 250 luck, 30-40 in each resist), runebook, recall and mark scrolls, and a blessed UBWS slayer weapon(maybe undead since you can get one on a new char thru the paly quest anyways),
People might be willing to donate to get cheap deco items. Demise had their deco stuff too high priced, IMO.
I would donate for the ability to change the colors of my pets too. As long as seizure pink is an option.

Yeah more items I could add. I've been pondering on the armor/wep related items but really as long as it's nothing too powerful I don't see the issue so I could add those. Things like the holy sword, leggings of ember, etc.

I know you dont like adding items. We talked about the 7th year rewards before. The only thing I miss from my OSI accounts is the rewards I bought 2 packs on OSI and the ones for pre order. The thing people want is not so much that the items are ubber because they are not you have better items now. The items being blessed is the key. I hate playing a guy running out of money trying to survive some rez killing monster when a red pvp shows up and loots you. I would buy the pack again also. I miss my leggings of embers, ancient sam helm sword, ugly fireplace ect...

Being a student of business, I have been thinking of ways for Red to break even with the costs of the server. Here are my ideas on the donation system.
Perhaps someone can ask some questions on demise and find out the breakdown of how much people donate. How many people buy the small $5-$10 items, medium items ($15-$25, and the highend $30 and $40 items. I would bet most of the donations are on the smaller end of the spectrum. To start I will list my donations on demise, my accts just turned 365 days recently. I played on demise for 9 months, and for the last few months I just renew my accts.
2x skill ball
2x vet ethy (llamas)
1x stat ball
1x soul stone fragment
3x pet deeds
4x name change deeds
Thats the best I can recall. All of the big items were donated for in the first few months I played on Demise. The name change deeds and vet theys were bought for trade. That is something demise was pretty smart to encourage, people using donation items as currency. I see a fair amount of vet ethys up for trade on the forums. People don't seem to value the deco stuff, as there are only a few deco items on display.
Lets look at the demographics of the Valor playerbase. Mostly the players on Valor are college age or higher. They all seem to play UO as a hobby, not an addiction (except for me!). That makes it a little tougher on the donation system, as their income is spent more on bills, family, and other recreation. It also means they are more likely to have the patience to macro skills, train stats, wait for pets to bond, and be more frugal with their in game possesions.
I feel the need to throw in an analogy, so I am going to come up with one off the top of my head. You can call it donations and gifts, but really most people see it as buying a product. Its online, in game, a few pixels, but it still is a product. People don't seem to be buying the Age of Valor products. Even if Red can get $30-$40 in donations a month that would help with the cost of the server. Almost 100% of every donation amount is free money to help fund the server. There is a little time spent on the coding, but other than that the gifts are created for free as soon as someone picks them. We have 10-20 active players in my estimate, lets find a way to share the financial burden.
So on to my analogy: Lets take 2 products on opposite ends of the financial spectrum. Ferraris and toilet paper. Both of these products make their companies Millions or even Billions in revenue. Everyone WANTS a Ferrari, but everyone BUYS toilet paper. In my opinion, most of the Valor donation items are priced in the Ferrari category. Skill deeds are like toilet paper, they are used once and dissapear. Demise has the skill and stat balls priced very high, but I do not have much faith in Asayre's business sense. Especially after how the staff acts towards players. Lets get stuff priced cheaper so more people donate for it. There should always be the stuff that most people want but can barely afford (ferraris). But remember, most of the money in an economy is spent on cheap disposable everyday items (IE: TP).
It would not be a bad thing to see a lot of the donation deco items at player's houses. As a matter of fact, it might bring more donations. If Tom has a donation rose and fireplace, I will want a donation rose and fireplace. But I am not going to spend $30 or whatever they cost to get them. Perhaps I should redye my raptalion to a better color and more people will want one. I am just having a lot of fun running around on the ugliest mount on the server.

Yeah that all makes sense, and it's why I removed the skill deeds, if anyone wants them, they either have to farm gold like mad to buy from the specialty dealer or takes 5 minutes to do the pay pal donation which in return will help the server. Over the time I want to add more deco stuff as well, and I'm thinking of adding stuff that came with the peerless stuff I downloaded, as it's not really part of peerless bosses, it was extra. It's basically a statue that lets you polymorph into various things, like chief paroxysmus or a shadow knight. I could see that being fun in pvp.
