Hi!

I'm a new player on UO, having just quit Runes Of Magic and World Of Warcraft, partly due to boredom and partly due to real life interfering raiding and stuff, so I wanted to get a bit more laid back casual type MMORPG with a LOT of fiddling to do, so I found this game.
Of course I had heard about UO before but never really managed to get myself involved. Anyways, here I am now and after some tweaking (running a Linux OS) I managed to get UO installed and even found an .exe file to run the game.

I'd have a few questions here:

1) I didn't find any Razor or whatever those programs are called but this .exe file seems to do the same thing without any fancy GUI this Razor and others seem to have. I have tried a few different login servers and they worked nicely so I'm capable of running the game. Will this pose any problems for me in the future? I mean the thing about not having some program to do the connecting.

2) I added the Age Of Valor pot and server on Login.cfg but it won't recognize my Username/Password. I read that AoV has automated login that other shards also had, but just to make sure I also created an account here and tried with those login details, but it didn't help. What to do?

3) I had read a lot of guides and tips about running UO and gathered that 6.0.5 is the latest version I should patch to so I can run the game. I did that and it worked for other shards.
After that I read on these forums that there's a 6.0.12 (I think that was it) in use and let my game patch as far as it would go. Was this the right thing to do?

I'll have a lot of questions in store here but for now I'd appreciate answers for these issues so I can log in and start actually playing the game.

Thanks a lot for your interest in reading this.

Hi Delerium,

To answer your questions:

1) Most people use razor as it is also an assist program to help you do certain handy things in game without breaking any major rules of Ultima. Such things like automatically picking up reagents off the floor or automatically dropping heavy ore to your feet while mining.

You may not need razor in order to log into the shard if you are just changing your login.cfg file then running the client that comes packaged with your copy of Ultima Online just most people prefer to use Razor for its added perks as well as its login list.

2) AOV is not currently accepting new players right now due to a large scale revamping of the server. We are currently working on some new systems and many of them are experimental so we are concentrating on development and testing before they make it on to the live server. We are currently working on an SQL project which is nearing completion. After testing we will start on the other shard aspects. The revamping is scheduled to be completed sometime at the beginning of 2010 but the shard may start accepting new players sooner than that.

3) AOV will normally let players know which client patch they should be running. Some patches cause a few problems which have to be fixed before we can approve them. Most of the time though, we will be running the most recent patch.

Thanks!
I will be on lookout to see when the shard starts accepting more people. Until then I might just learn some UO on this PvP shard I managed to connect to. Really am not towards PvP but I guess it's better than nothing.

Au revoir!
