19 Days ago my gaming computer decided to stop working. I fooled around with some parts, and figured out my motherboard had crapped-out. After shopping around, I decided to order these beauties:

-ASUS M4A78-E AM2+/AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

-AMD Phenom 9850 2.5GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor Model

My old MB wasn't nearly as pretty as this one, and I used to run with an AMD 2.8GHz x2 64 DCP. With this new MB and this QuadCore, I should be able to play at an optimal level once again ^^.

Discuss.

I doubt a game as old as the 2D UO client would even come close to using 20% of the total resources of your old system, so I doubt your performance will improve much due to the new rig :P

This is somewhat true. While it can't boost my performance to be any faster, it will help insure that I am as fast as possible 100% of the time. With a nice connection and a nice computer, I can play any game with no chance of falling bellow 100% efficiency.

At least, until the next new game comes out. Then you'll need a new video card. :p

I gave up with graphical games because of that. As soon as something new comes out, the newest and greatest $1,700 video card wont even run it.

Speaking of new games, has anybody tried Darkfall yet? I played it on a buddys computer and I can't say I liked it.. IDK, I'm a huge fan of UO retro 2d chic.

I think it could take a lot of WOW/EQ members though.

Everyone at The Noob webcomic are obsessed over it.

I'm not too worried about needing a new video card for a while. My comp is perfectly capable of running Crysis with no problems ^^.

No, but I am signed up for the Mortal Online Beta. About me and 10 friends are trying to get into the beta, and if it's good enough I might actually be willing to pay monthly for it. It's basically a full loot, super-complex pre-aos UO (with modern graphics, which is something UO players aren't used to lol).

All of my friends and I signed up about a week ago. I'm not sure when the Beta starts, but it is soon I believe.

When I first got my comp I had it run Crysis, 3 uo clients, media player, yahoo, msn and icq all at once with a few of my friends messaging me constantly. Task switching was no problem, everything ran beautifully, I could even play Crysis with all my background processes running constantly. (macroing in uo etc)

Built this beast for only $2500 too

**Topic was split** >> Quake Live Topic

Im a sucker for building cheap machines and seeing how much they can take before they smoke. I actually fried an egg on a celeron once, think Ive got a funny video of that.

Im currently on the AM2 X2 dualcore from AMD. Ive got a 3.6ghz proc clocked over 5.2 and its solid as a rock. The last intel I did, I melted it at 22% overload and it didnt matter how cool it ran, just could not handle the load. This AMD is at something like 69% overload and Im scheduled to hit 5.3 on saturday, whoa.. thats tomorrow, lol. I used to say AMD couldnt handle the strain but these newer low watt procs are actually kickin intels a$$. I havnt gotten into server grade yet, but Im pretty sure that intel puts there money into xeons, and not so much the extremes.
