Interesting situation last night

So last night around 12:00ish am the door bell starts ringing and I hear knocking at the door. It's kinda obvious someone was there as my room light was on and I had let the light in the living room on so I don't trip on something and crack my skull open while going to the bathroom.

At first I'm thinking it's just a bunch of teenagers screwing around so I just ignore it and hope they go away. It kept going so I decided I better check. I close my light, look outside and see two cop cars. I'm like "woah, what did I do? This can't be good" so I go answer the door and this cop starts questioning me about the neighbour, he was pretty nice too. He asked me when's the last time I saw him, etc. They were basically trying to figure where he was as his secretary was getting concerned. (he's a doctor, and was sick, and has not been heard of in like 2 weeks).

So I let them keep going and keep the outside light on to make it easier for them to do their search. Then it dawned on me, I took pics of snow as well as his house since I was laughing at how he never shovels his stairs. Every year it's like that. But it clicked in. no foot prints. so I go back and open the door to see if the cop sees me, then he saw me and came. I told him about the pics, in case it helps them out with the investigation and he asks if I have a picture which I happened to still have on the camera too.

So he goes back. Then maybe an hour later he rings the door bell again, and apologies but asks if I can wakeup my mom as it's important, so they can maybe get more info. So I wake her up and then we talk with the cop for a bit more, then he goes back to investigate.

By 3, there was a total of 4 cop cars including the supervisor car, a SUV, and a pickup truck. All in front of his/our house. I was getting tired and at this point it looked like most of the action was inside the house so not much to see from outside. Was hard to tell if they broke in but I assumed so. So I go to bed.

Now today I got a call from my sister to let me know he was found dead and brought to the morgue by 4. The cause is not yet known.

This guy was really weird, and was a heavy drinker. What I'm thinking is he probably got so drunk, and while being sick, something went wrong and he died. I'm not yet sure though. We were not really that close to him, but it's still rather shocking. It's sad really, since tbh I don't even think he'll have a funeral. he was just a really sicko weird type person and not much people knew him, other then his patients. I could maybe see patients getting together to organize a funeral though, but as far as family he has none that are close.

For a bit of history, his mom had alzeimers and lived with him, and died in that same house (I think it was that house). She fell between the railing and the wall, and he left her there.

Now he died in that house too. Kinda creepy tbh.

Quite a shock that's for sure.

Stupid question. Some one had to report the guy missing right? Why couldn't they walk there ass over to the house them selfs instead of calling the cops who instead of looking in side were banging on peoples doors and waking them up?

I'm guessing they filed a missing person report which then the cops have to take care of. If the person went themselves then it would be tresspassing / break and enter etc. This guy was very isolated, so like he probably never answered his phone, if he even had one.

What I'm wondering is why they did it at that time. Maybe it's to not have a scene in the middle of day, or something.

The cops can't just walk into someone's house without a warrant. A warrant will only be issued by a judge if there is probable cause. In this case, even though there was probably a missing person report out, it did not mean that the person was actually missing.

nah, cops can get a warrant for pretty much anything if they have probable cause. Like I told red last night when he said they were still outside standing around, I said they are probs waiting on a warrant to search the prem. And if your looking for someone, or someone has filed and affidavit then normally the first place cops look is your home residence, and then they branch out elsewhere.
