Crafting and resources for Black smith

just thought of mine but here goes
Ingot smelt chance at 120 mineing is abyssmaly low. Eg: consistantly faling to smelt agapite verite and valorite 80% of the time. Some times getting no ore from an elimental at all because of failing to smelt so often.

Quest rewards sorter could be rethought a little because of rewards like ____>
Recieving shaddow runic hammers for gold and agapite quests.
Recieving Bronze hammers for valorite quests
1000 val quests and recieving mineing gloves lol
7 Fark Saphire quests to recieve shaddow iron hammers
even more gold and less items is prefferable over recieving item worth absolutely nothing.
I would preffer to get 25 pick axes then get a 50 charge shaddow or dull hammer for a high level quest.

I guess thats kinda what i am getting at.

The problem is UO historically has always punished lack of risk. Partly because if not everyone would just take the easy way out to acquire items/wealth/whatever.
It got worse with the Tram/Fel split because why risk anything if you can get the same rewards without any risk.

Since you could mine in Ilsh or Tram until hell freezes over with little or no risk your resource gathering is risk free.
Since doing quests with those resources is also completely risk free they punish you with totally random reward chance and lots of crappy rewards.

In summary, you're getting owned by risk vs reward.

Personally I think crafting is too far on the sucky side of the spectrum and some things should be adjusted. There are still a number of ways to introduce rewards for taking on more risks or reduce rewards without taking risk without the quest rewards themselves being so horribly random and things like smelting chance and enhancing items being so awful. Oh, and failing so much lumberjacking with no way to enhance LJ skill more.

We'll keep that in mind when we revise the quests. A player was already kind enough to give us some statistical information on the rewards they were receiving so we'll be using that as a guide for prizes in the future.

Make it so you can only do crafting quests in fel. Then up all the reward chances.

I was thinking more along the lines of adjusting rare resource chances for example. Hard to make changes to where you do the questing, but it's easy (in theory) to adjust the resource gathering side of it. Lower or even non-existent rare gem gathering outside of Fel for example.

That's merely an example of one thing that *could* be done, and my point isn't to further punish crafters but as a possibly necessary adjustment to add some time/risk/etc to justify improving the rewards (which I do think should be done) shrug.

Hmmm i dont know how statistical this is but.....
I did 1025 gold and recieved a 50 charge copper (useless)
625 gold and recieved a 50 charge bronze hammer (useless)
625 agapite and recieved a 50 charge copper hammer (useless)

If the hammer reward was based closer to what handed in. That would make more sense
I did another agapite quest and got 105 smithy
A val quest and a gold hammer
verite quest for Bronze hammer
Handing in 6 rrare jewells and gettin a 105
Scroll.
I have been smithing for days.
There isnt any advantage in rewards or quests for carrying a 60+ash hammer or have high smithing. The quests are mostly still 300 too 1000 Iron lol 300 shaddow.
I have done over 100 quests since i got a val quest. Which is slightly extreme.
Considering the rarity of high level quests the chance of a decent reward is incredibly bissmal.

600 shaddow (ended up costing more then then 900 ingots after crafting bag items) got a fucking prospectors tool.

crafting is simple. If you want it you wont get it.

Some of the rewards you mentioned that are low are typical and even after a major over haul on the system, most of those would stay the same.

if anything, the system is too open for chance. Val/verite & frost/heartwood appear too often and are rewarded to often.

Its a tossup really, because you get the chance to craft something worth keeping over the avalibility of the runics. One is not common enough, the other is too common.

The rewards are too sporadic is the main issue. If there were a better system such as OSI's bod system (but easier) then it would be better as you would kind of be able to "predict" what you would get, with a slight chance of getting a different item (Such as the breaks between a power scroll or a runic kit).

Enhancing and bonuses were improved with UOML in regards to talismans. Talismans give different crafting bonuses, where many of the crafting skills don't have power scrolls (Cooking for example). Not sure if they are working properly however as talismans were not originally coded by AOV and are in need of a large revision as not all the properties and bonuses are working correctly.
