My main home server randomly failed, thankfully a hard reset got it up and running, scared the crap out of me. I have NO time to deal with rebuilding a server at this point.
Raid is rebuilding now....
Not sure what happened but the load went to like 5+, killing the server. It's a quad core, so if the load is even close to 1, it's usually an indication of something going way out of whack.

Nah my other server at home, it does my email and all that. Still critical though as if that goes down then I have to waste time fixing it.
Better not be the dev one as I did not do the disaster recovery stuff yet (imaging, testing backups etc). Will do that soon.

It looks ok now, everything seems to have came up ok. Was still scary though, and I hope it wont happen again.
I had very BAD luck when I originally setup that server, so it still makes me nervous.
I ended up RMAing like 3 different items, the build took months because I kept running into defective stuff. The motherboard actually has issues where it cannot handle a 2nd nic, but I was so sick and tired of RMAing stuff I said F it. So I hope it's not another hardware problem creeping up on me.

Yeah well I'm hoping this will at least last me for a few years. My next server will be a dell, never building a server again after the crap I went through.
Then again I've seen dell server parts fail on arrival too. They make stuff so low quality now, and lack proper quality control. That's what we get for outsourcing manufacturing to china.

I currently have a dell and have had no problems I always though they were one of the better ones out there.

dell was the best when michael dell owned it. But since he steped down the goals of the company became that of any major distro. to be a major distro. Quality is something those companies cant say openly.
you ever find you need another server, let me know. I can assure you I can build you a system that will run trouble free for a minimum of 4 years. I do it everyday. I probably have 30 servers running Ive built, and I think only 1 has given me problems, and some of those suckers are pushing 8 years, and still run like a scalded ape.

Well problem I've seen with building is hardware is hit or miss. They just don't make stuff like they used to. You can't buy a motherboard or a cpu or ram and be guarantee it's actually going to work out of the box. It's sad really. I just happen to have the most horrible luck and always end up with the lemon stuff.
