Ripping DvDs

I don't know the first thing about ripping dvds. All i want to do is rip my extensive library to my computer. The files need to be converted into .mpg AND .mp4 so that I can watch them on my way to work on my iPod. Google has given me answers, but none that work. So i come to you.
So my questions are:
1. How can I rip a DvD to my comp?
2. How can I convert that file to .mpg?
3. How can I convert that file to .mp4?
4. What program can I use to cut out all that titlescreen bullshit? All I want is the movie, not the FBI warning, not the production company intros, not the trailers for other movies.
I've got a 500gb external for this, I'm running Windows Vista.
1 million to the first person to usefully answer my questions. If what you tell me doesn't work, no millions for you.[/list]

first off you need a ripper from download.com or pirate one but thats not a good idea
well it rips off the dvd as a mpg, but you have to use a converter
http://www.download.com/Free-DVD-Ripper ... d=10656147
ripper
http://www.download.com/Pazera-Free-PSP ... d=10885869
psp uses mp4 so i just use the psp converter =]
my mil plox
edit: you cant cut it out unless you know how to decode isos and i highly doubt it =]

Tony is wrong, you don't need to decode anything to be able to rip just the main movie. Even DVDShrink can do this.

Fair enough. Thanks for the info. I watched "I Am Legend" at work today. This is definitely FTW.
