Lag issue

I'm aware of the huge lag issue that's been ongoing as the shard population is increasing at a faster pace.

I don't think it's network related as we are not using much of our actual bandwidth. We have 100mbps and using maybe 5 at the very most during high peak times.

I'm thinking it may be some script that needs tweaking. Every time the shard lags for a few minutes just post here and what you were doing. It will help me figure out what the cause of the lag is.

More testing to do to help figure the issue:

When it's not laggy, download this file:

http://www.uocoders.com/100mb.bin

Take note of the average download speed. Maybe do this a few times.

When it's not laggy, download it again. And take note of the average download speed and if it's much lower then the previous one.

This will help determine if it's a server application issue or a network issue. If it's network I can send a ticket to the network division and have them take a look at it.

Probably spawners or onthinks.

I don't seem to lag when I'm doing stuff on my house, but when I'm fiighting, be it PvP or PvM, I get ocasional freezes, so I don't really think it's one of those things.

i agree

usualy when im in a party of 4 or greater, and we are running together ect ect lag occurs... maybe some 5 second spikes ect ect

99% of time it seems to be server wide, as others start back right when i do, about 1% of time its T2A/OSI school, when i unfreeze im dead -=/

Actually that reminds me there is code having to do with running and deathstrike that is very unefficient, I can look into recoding it.

Every time a mobile walks, it checks a hash table if they are in deathstrike mode, and if yes, how many steps it's been. I can think of at least 2 better ways to code that... I left it runuo default as it was not an issue at the time, but now it may be worth looking into. Though this would have no effect on if players are close together or not, it would just lag all the time period.

Partys on the other hand may possibly have an effect. We'd have to do some experimenting. Maybe it takes longer to calculate notoriety status when a party is involved. That status is calculated whenever area spells are involved, or when someone appears on screen (to show proper name hue).

Grims doesnt lag me usually, only if theres like 2 or three of my guild popping em off at about the same time. But I don't see any lag unless its more than one person at the same time in the same place.

The couple of times I noticed it was while I was sitting in luna. I'd just see 2 or 3 people pop off at the same time as I kinda freeze up or go into glue walking mode.
