Strange Occurances at the Magincia Ruins

It's been over 8 months since the invasion that tore apart Magincia. The demons of the void, the light demons and demon berserkers showed no mercy in sparing the lives of the innocent citizens.
All that was left of magincia was a smoldering pile, rubble from the leftover shops and houses. Few escaped with their lives. The survivors fled to jhelom, moonglow and skara brae, afraid to return to their homes in case the demons returned.
It's been quite some time since the invasion and a group of thieves have recently ventured into the ruins of Magincia to loot some relics and goods to sell through the black market. After all, some people would pay highly for some of their possessions that were seemingly "lost" in the ruins of the city.
Just a few weeks ago however, the thieves found that they were no longer the only ones taking interest in the Magincia ruins. As the days rolled on, a wall appeared out of thin air, made from the debris of the Magincia ruins.
Somebody might be trying to rebuild their home perhaps? The thieves thought the same thing, but the strange part is nobody noticed who was building the wall.
One thief reported that he saw "Rubble floating in the air". Perhaps the spirits of the dead victims trying to ward off looters?
Could that explain the wall's existence? During the last few weeks, the wall seems to have doubled in size but still, nobody has a clue of who (Or what) is building it. Some people have gathered outside of Magincia to observe from a distance. Some claim that they've seen "dark red eyes" around the ruins at night.
The Standard is not sure exactly what's been going on but we'll be periodically reporting more facts as we receive them.

It's been a little over a week since we last investigated the strange occurances at the ruins of Magincia. We were intrigued by the rumors so we decided to talk with the Council of Mages.
The Council of Mages have been around for hundreds of years during the great faction war. We were honored to be given the opportunity to interview one of their oldest leaders: Karl Zen.
The Standard: "Good day Karl Zen! We must say we are honored to be interviewing you!"
Karl Zen: "Good good"
The Standard: "Can you tell us what's been going on lately? Being so close to the ruins of Magincia, surely you must know something"
Karl Zen: "During faction battles and protecting our base again attacks, we haven't really paid attention until the rumors started surfacing"
The Standard: "Did you or any of your members decide to investigate?"
Karl Zen: "Yes. I sent some mages out to investigate the ruins. They did not see anything out of the ordinary besides the fact that there was a strange wall in the middle of the ruins. OH! A couple of members "did" see a few pieces of rubble floating in the air but when they went to approach it, the rubble fell back to the ground"
The Standard: "So the rubble just 'fell' suddenly when you tried to approach it?"
Karl Zen: "Yes. Could have been the wind raising it or something. Maybe even a ninja or stealther trying to play tricks on us."
The Standard: "People claim they've seen bright red eyes at night, can you confirm if these rumors are true?"
Karl Zen: "We have not investigated at night, only during the day. Night time is risky. Many thieves come out to steal from the ruins at night and they've been known to become violent. We also experience base raids during the night as the darkness gives stealthers an advantage of not being seen so we're rather busy at that time."
The Standard: "So you haven't seen or heard anything strange?"
Karl Zen: "Sometimes at night, we can hear a low 'ooooOOooing' noise coming from the ruins. I assume it to be wraiths or zombies but now that you mention it, we never used to hear those noises before."
The Standard: "Karl Zen, we thank you for your time answering our questions"
Karl Zen: "You're welcome. Now go out and kill those darn True Brits!!!! Hehe, just kidding!"
Suuuuure he was. Karl Zen's interview did not give us much more information on the mysterious happenings in the Magincia Ruins but he did say that he never really checked on the ruins in the night.
We all know that there are things that go bump in the night. Tonight, when it's dark, we will be investigating the strange happenings at the Magincia ruins to get a look for ourselves!

Strange Occurances at the Magincia Ruins

We approached the Magincia ruins just as the sun was setting in Sosaria. To our surprise, Magincia looked a lot darker without all the lamps it used to have before the destruction.
There was hardly any light, so we took out a few torches and lit them. As we ventured closer into the ruins, we noticed some faint red and black lights in the distance.
"Where are those lights coming from? Are they eyes?"
One of our members took out his crossbow, just in case something jumped out at us. As we grew closer, we discovered the origin of the light. Red and Black lanterns were floating all around the ruins, and with them, pieces of rubble flew into the sky.
As we watched the rubble move into the air, we took at glance at the wall.
It was big. Much bigger than it was earlier today. In fact, it had grown twice as large.
"Somebody or something has bewitched these lanterns" one of my friends said.
Suddenly, one of the lanterns came towards us. Before we could take the swords out of their sheafs, one of my members launched an arrow at the lantern. A beam of light flew out of the lantern and flew towards the attacker, passing right through him with so much force that he was tossed backwards into a pile of rubble. Within seconds, he was dead.
We quickly stepped back away from the rubble and headed towards the moongate.
"This is bad, we need to get out of here!"
As we rushed towards the moongate, I looked back to see if the strange lanterns were following us. I breathe a sigh of relief when I saw no sparkling red and black lights. My sigh of relief was short lived.
"What's that in the sky?!"
I grabbed the arm of a mage who had accompanied us and pointed towards the sky. A bright orange object was falling from it, getting bigger and bigger and bigger. We heard an earth shattering BOOM as the object made impact with the earth.
"It hit the house of the Council of Mages!" I cried, but we were both already running towards it.
As we approached the impact, we discovered that a medium sized flaming object had taken out one of the bridges of the base. A bunch of hot, blackish rocks littered the bridge.
"It looks like a meteor" the mage said. "We should grab one of these stones, maybe we can find out where it came from".
Try as we might, we could not gather one of the stones. As we approached the meteor, we became weak and violently ill. We pulled away quickly, grabbing greater cure potions from our pockets and quickly drinking them. There was some foul poison in that area.
As we sat to regain our health, we heard heavy footsteps and yelling coming from the other bridge. A cloaked figure tore across the bridge on a steed in a mad gallop with several council members chasing after it.
The cloak figure disappeared from view, and it was not long until the council members found their way to us.
"What happened?" I said
"We have no idea, we heard this tremendous crash and came out to investigate. As we gathered at the bridge, that thing was waiting for us. We seemed to have chased it off though. Maybe it came from the ruins?"
"We don't know, but there's some strange lanterns hovering in the ruins right now. Don't attack them, it's instant death if you do" I said as I got up off the ground.
We stared at the smoldering meteor. Where did it come from? Undoubtedly it had something to do with the ruins and those strange lanterns. Could those lanterns have summoned a meteor like this? Or perhaps that cloaked figure who rode off out of sight?
We may be playing with fire in this mystery.

It's been 6 days since the meteor hit the base of the Council of Mages, completely blocking the second bridge to the base.
We returned in the daytime to look for more clues. We were shocked to see that the whole half of the island turned into a giant barricade. Apparently the strange lanterns were still building this massive barricade. Why were they doing this? What incentive was there?
Could it be the Council of Mages were doing this all along and leading us astray? Or was there another force at work here? Who was the cloaked figure we saw that night and where did they vanish off to?
All we knew at this point in time was that these lanterns were working hard to try and keep us out. We found it a lot more difficult to enter Magincia with the giant barricade blocking us. However, there were still quite a few openings left that had not been closed up yet.
We walked passed the barricade and were reminded of the Magincia ruins. With the barricade up, we almost forgot what happened here several months ago. Rubble strewn apart everywhere, not a single soul around. The Council of Mages were the only ones who remained.
"I'll go check over here to see if there's an entrance to the meteor" my friend said as he walked away in the opposite direction.
I walked along the edge of the barricade, looking for an entrance to the meteor. I became startled when a being flew out of midair, spilling what looked to be some jewels and swag. A priceless ming vase crashed on the sandstone ruins.
The thief pulled out a knife and brandished it at me.
"Why don't you watch where you're stepping?! I'm stealthing here you oaf!"
The thief prepared to stab at me but I was quick to disarm the crudely carved knife out of his hands.
The thief staggered back, pulling a dirty bandage out from his pockets to staunch the abrasion I had inflicted.
"Everyone's after my loot, why don't you just bugger off!" The thief yelled while picking up some of the dropped loot.
"What are you doing here anyways? Looting people's valuables. Many souls were lost here, have a bit of valor" I said with an angry tone, eyebrows shifting downwards during the scowl.
"This loot's ripe for the picking, and it's all mine! You hear me? It's my shot at a slice of the pie. These goods fetch a great deal with the traders and I'm not about to let any trammie take it from me!"
"Traders? What traders?" I asked with a look of interest on my face.
The thief's eyes lit up at my words. Apparently, he said too much and now I was some kind of threat. He prepared to lunge at me but before he could, we were taken by surprise by somebody shouting.
"I found an opening in the barricade that leads us to the meteor". I turned my head for one second to see who was calling. It was one of my crew members, who was now racing towards me to tell me the news. When I glanced back to where I was, the thief was gone and all that was left was the shattered remains of a vase and a golden pendant he dropped while fleeing.
I picked up the pendant. It was tarnished from the destruction of Magincia. It must have been sitting under the debris for several months. Almost everything was golden on the pendant, except for the center. A blackish stone in the center of the pendant was an unusual addition to the pendant. I spied it with fascination
"Is this a piece of obsidian in the middle?"
"Doesn't look like obsidian, obsidian is dark and glossy. This stone is blackish and unpolished. Quite an unusual combination for a piece of jewelry" my friend said while running his finger across the stone.
"It's kind of rough actually"
Not wanting to leave the pendant for other thieves, I decided to take it in hopes of finding who it belonged to. I quickly pocketed the pendant and we were on our way to the site of the meteor.

As we crept along the wall of the barricade, we spotted the meteor in the distance. There were three of us: Myself, Lord Kane of the Council of Mages and Mordak the mage who was the one who came shouting when the thief tried attacking. We met up with Lord Kane on our way to the meteor.
He was standing at a distance, his large overseer sundered blade at his side, just staring at the meteor. His norse helm shone against the setting sun and reminded us that it would be dark soon. We best do what we came to do and leave as soon as possible before things get ugly again.
"Hail" I said while approaching the bridge. Lord Kane casually glanced at us. Apparently something was on his mind as he did not acknowledge our presence at first and returned his glance to the large black boulder that now made the bridge to COM inaccessible.
"Good day sir, I am Jacob of Jhelom and this is Mordak the mage. We've come to observe this meteor".
"It's shocking, isn't it? That this meteor would just fall from the sky out of the blue. I'm glad nobody was injured but I can't help but wonder 'why' this meteor decided to come crashing" Lord Kane said.
We walked up to Lord Kane to get a better glance of the meteor.
"I am Lord Kane, a sheriff for the council of mages. I work to protect my faction but alas, I am overwhelmed".
"Why is that?" Mordak asked.
"Nothing could have prepared us for this meteor, and I feel that all the guards I could hire would not be able to prevent another from falling. As a protector, I feel vulnerable at the thought of being defenseless if another meteor were to fall"
Lord Kane hung his head in shame, feeling defeated
"We're here to help. We've come to take samples of the meteor to see where it came from. Perhaps some research will help us find out where it came from. This research can help you protect your people"
Lord Kane smiled weakly.
"I sure hope so" he said before walking out of view towards a group of his followers. As he greeted them, he put on a show of confidence as to not let them down, but we knew he was at a loss.
The sun began setting rapidly and it started getting dark.
"Alright, let's finish this before it gets too dark" I said to Mordak.
We approached the meteor. It no longer radiated that vile toxin it once did and the fire and magma had cooled and hardened. Mordak took his hammer pick and prepared to chop a piece off the meteor. Nothing could have prepared us for what happened.
As the pick struck the rock, there was a loud explosion and we were both tossed back with violent force. Luckily we fell into the waters and were unhurt. We stared up at the bridge as columns of fire, ash and rock poured from the meteor momentarily before subsiding.
"What in the name of Shamino just happened?" Mordak said as he got up, cleaning the black soot from his face and collecting his hammer pick which was now in several pieces.
"Apparently you hit some kind of nerve or core when you struck the rock".
As I helped him collect the pieces of his hammer pick, an outstretched hand appeared beside us.
It was Lord Kane and several members of the Council of Mages. As they hoisted us up out of the river, Kane began to speak:
"I don't think it's wise to attack the meteor. It's dangerous and unpredictable. A stunt like that could get us all killed. How do we know it won't explode and take out the rest of Magincia?"
"We just needed a sample" Mordak said. "Besides, it looks like it stopped spewing out hot flames."
We decided not to repeat that action again. As we walked up to the bridge, Mordak mumbled "remind me never to try that again". Luckily, we wouldn't have to, for at out feet was a tiny chunk of the meteor.
I reached for it. It was warm to the touch and as I held on to it, it gave me a feeling of power. I felt stronger, healthier, wiser.
"Here, hold this. Tell me if you feel anything". I handed it to Mordak. His eyes lit up with surprise at the touch.
"That's interesting, I feel stronger, healthier and wiser when holding this stone. It's rather remarkable." He said
"It is, hand it back to me. I'll bet the great alchemist of Moonglow will be able to tell us what it is." I extended my hand waiting for the stone, but Mordak stood there, continuing to hold it.
"Mordak? Is something wrong? I asked for the stone, did you not hear me?"
"Oh ya, right. Ummm I think it's best if I held on to it for safe keeping. After all, you did get attacked by a thief."
I agreed to let him carry the stone in his pocket but questioned his peculiar behavior. Why did he hesitate when I asked for the stone?
We arrived back home in Jhelom just as it became dark. We were both holding lanterns to light the way.
"It's a shame about your hammer pick, it was your father's wasn't it?"
"Ya don't worry about it. It's not like it was a heirloom" said Mordak. As we reached my house, I extended my hand again.
"The stone, I'll lock it up for safe keeping"
"Nahhh you don't need to do that. I'll place it in my bank for safe keeping. After all, what's more secure than a bank box?" Mordak said as he took out the stone once more. As he held it, his eyes glazed over in a stare. He stood there, just staring at the piece of stone.
I quickly swiped the stone from him and he snapped back to reality.
"What is with you lately? Staring off into the heavens. You should see a healer cause I think those meteor fumes have gotten to you." I said as I placed the stone in a small pouch and tied it up.
"Ya, maybe I should. I think this whole meteor and floating lantern scenario is making me loopy".
"Get some rest, I'll keep an eye on the stone." I said as I placed the stone in my pack. We nodded in agreement and both set out in opposite directions.

Don't worry too much about it now. For now it's storyline building up to the events (There are many stages of this event).
This is a large event being hosted on AOV, one that can potentially last for months. For those who participated in last year's Halloween event when Hel broke loose to try and reap the souls of the Sosarians, it's similar to that.
For now you can just read the storyline and make some assumptions and try to solve the mystery. That's half the fun of the event. As more of the storyline gets posted, more things will change in game so just keep snooping around where the story leads you!

Strange Occurances at the Magincia Ruins

As I entered the bedroom of my log cabin, I located a chest in the corner of the room. The valorite chest with gold trim would keep the stone safe. I didn't know what the stone was, but it seemed to be having an impact on Mordak.
I placed the pouch inside the large chest and locked it up.
I set my lantern on the cherry armoire next to my bed. As I sat on the mattress, I felt something heavy in my pocket. It was the strange pendant I picked up earlier. Being too tired to make anything of it, I placed it inside the drawer of the cherry armoire and quickly fell asleep.
Hours passed, but I could not sleep. Every few minutes I would think about the meteor, the floating lanterns and the golden pendant. There was not enough information to link them together, and my mind struggled to find a way.
After several attempts at sleeping, I woke up. I looked outside the window to see that it was still dark outside. I sat upright on the mattress of the bed, wondering when it would be light again.
My mind wandered in the direction of the pendant, much to my dismay. I found myself slowly opening the drawer and pulling out the pendant to examine it again. The stone was almost impossible to see in the darkness of the bedroom, but the gold chain shone at every opportunity when it reflected the moonlight.
The necklace was fairly heavy, even though the stone itself was small. The chain must have been pure gold. This must have costed the owner quite a fortune.
Without thinking of the consequences, I decided to wear the necklace. To my surprise, upon wearing the necklace I felt relieved, strong and healthy. I felt as though a strong force were protecting me, keeping me safe. To my surprise, the necklace that was once heavy in my hands, was light around my neck. It almost felt like it didn't exist at all.
Suddenly, in front of me appeared a blurry white cloud. I squinted my eyes to focus on the strange light before me. As I began squinting, I realized that the image was already becoming clearer and before long, I was staring at a mysterious figure.
It was a woman. She had light blonde hair and was exceptionally beautiful, and young. I guessed she looked about 21 years old, but I could not be certain. She stood there, floating with a stale glaze, as though she were suspended in mid-air.
"Who are you? Are you real?" I said as I reached out to touch the image. As I placed my hand in front of me, my focus on the woman disappeared. When I looked again, she was gone and I once again found myself alone in my bedroom. Did I just hallucinate?
I took the pendant off and placed it around my neck again, but the woman did not return. Feeling discouraged at not seeing her again, I concluded that I was probably so exhausted I imagined it all.
Taking the necklace off from around my neck, I placed it in the drawer next to me and went back to sleep.

Strange Occurances at the Magincia Ruins

I awoke to the sound of a fist pounding against wood. Somebody was banging at my door. I got up and took a look outside. It was bright and sunny. I estimate it was about noon. Apparently I slept longer than I would have wanted.
"Jacob, I know you're home, open up!"
I pulled open the door, still dazed from being woken up so abruptly. Mordak was at the door, carrying his favorite spellbook and smelling of ginseng and mandrake root.
"You ready to go? We have to head to Moonglow before dark" Mordak said.
"Ya, give me a second." I said, still groggy.
I put on my pair of thigh boots and suited up in armor. I opened the valorite chest with the gold trim and took out the pouch holding the strange blackish stone.
I was about to leave the bedroom when I paused for a second and took a long glance at the drawer where the pendant was resting. I raced back to the drawer and pulled the pendant out. I suddenly found myself wanting to put it around my neck again to see if the strange woman would appear to me.
I held the chain up over my head and prepared to put it on.
"Hurry it up! We don't have all day. I'm sure the alchemist is a very busy man!".
Mordak's yelling brought me back to reality. I pocketed the pendant and rushed out of the house.
***
We reached Moonglow early as we took the moongate to speed up time. We soon found ourselves walking up to a large building where scribes were writing on parchment. They occasionally glanced at us and gave us a smile but they were too consumed in whatever mantras they were writing down on the scrolls. In the corner, we saw one of them squeezing purple juice out of a black pearl and staining the scroll. There was a small puff of smoke before the scroll returned to its original shade.
"Can I help you?". A sage greeted us, dressed in a sandy colored robe and holding a gnarled staff in his hands.
"We're here to see the head alchemist" we responded.
"He's a bit busy. He can't just see anyone who walks in here so suddenly".
"We have something we need him to analyze" I said as I pulled out the black stone and showed it to him.
The sage looked it over, muttering "Yes....strange stone, maybe volcanic like pumice".
As the sage held the stone in his hands, we knew he could feel its power. He breathed in deeply, closing his eyes, almost enjoying the experience. He snapped back to reality, muttering a soft "Oh....this is most unusual. A feeling of strength followed by a feeling of illness. Quite unusual".
The sage extended his hand to return the stone and I discovered that I was not the only one reaching for it. Mordak's hand was also there. I shot him a peculiar look as I placed the stone back in the pouch and quickly tied the string.
"Follow me" the sage responded.
We climbed up a set of staircases and found ourselves in a large room. The room was mostly empty except for numerous bookshelves and an alchemist table in the corner. An old man with a beard that extended past his sandals was peering over some kind of concoction.
"Zurol....these men have something they want you to see" the sage said, motioning us towards the old alchemist. As we approached the alchemist, the sage gave us some privacy by leaving the area and heading back down the stairs.
Zurol didn't say anything but waited for us to make the first move.
"We found this strange stone and were wondering if you could tell us what it is". The alchemist stared at us with intrigue and lit up a bowl of tobacco as I fumbled with the pouch.
Thick white rings of smoke extended from the alchemist's pipe as I pulled the black stone out of the pouch.
I held it in my hands to show him. "We were hoping you could tell us what this i..". I was cut short as the alchemist stumbled backwards with a look of terror on his face. The pipe was no longer in his hands, it was broken on the floor with its contents spread across the sandstone tiles.
"Out"
"Beg your pardon?" Mordak said.
"Get out of here and take that thing with you. Don't ever come back here" Zurol said as he turned back to the table, avoiding eye contact with us.
"Wait a minute here, we came all this way to find out what this stone is and you tell us to get out?" I said with a tone of hatred and frustration.
"I'm sure you don't know what that stone is. You've come here to find out its secrets and use them, haven't you? Well, you won't get them from me. Now I beg of you, leave us alone and never come back" said Zurol, still avoiding eye contact.
I placed the stone back in its pouch and returned it to my pocket. I walked up to the alchemist, who was hunched over the alchemy table with his hand over his face.
"We're here from Magincia, trying to solve the strange occurances that have been happening there. Please, tell me about this stone. You're the only one we can turn to who can tell us about it." I said in a calmer tone.
The alchemist stared at us through his thick spectacles.
"You really don't have a clue, do you?" he said, glancing around the room to view both of us. We shook our heads simultaneously. The alchemist sighed and pulled up three chairs.
"Have a seat" he said as he walked towards a bookshelf and pulled an old book from it. The book looked as though it were made from deer pelt but you could easily smell the blood moss that was undoubtedly rubbed on the pages of the ancient book.
"That stone is a chunk of blackrock". Zurol said as he opened the book and showed us a few pages.
"Blackrock? What's blackrock?" Mordak asked.
"Blackrock is a mysterious reagent. Nobody has ever completely discovered all the uses for it, but it's the most powerful reagent known to man and elf. It has never been harnessed for constructive purposes, it has always lead to devistation".
"Devistation?" I asked, intrigued.
"Yes. Blackrock has been used in the past. The most recent devistation happened in old haven. Blackrock was used to destroy old haven. It was consumed in flames when an unknown force casted armageddon." The alchemist said, his head hanging low as he moved his long, bony fingers along the page in the book.
The page showed a giant flaming meteor on one page and a shower of flame and stone on the other. My heart jumped as I noticed a group of skeletons burning and humans and elves being crushed by large black elemental like creatures.
"Thankfully, armageddon is difficult to cast by mere mortals. Only powerful magic creatures or mages could harness the true power of armageddon. It's still very dangerous that you found this chunk of blackrock, considering blackrock's presence is rare in Sosaria" the alchemist said.
Shortly after his words fled his mouth, he looked up and asked "Where did you find this piece of blackrock anyways?"
"We broke a chunk off a meteor that fell in Magincia so we could identify it" Mordak said as he ran his finger over the page in the book where the flaming meteor was. His eyes opened wide as he suddenly made the connection from Magincia to the images in the book.
"A METEOR?! Oh no. No no no no." The alchemist yelled as he jumped up, accidently slamming the book on Mordak's finger. Mordak pulled his finger out with a yelp and began shaking it violently.
"GO! Go destroy it now before it's too late!" The alchemist yelled as he ran to his alchemy table and started pouring purple juice into bottles and handing them to us.
"What will happen if we don't destroy it?" I asked as he passed me and Mordak bottle after bottle of greater explosion potions.
"Hopefully it will never come to that. Go now, there's no time to lose."
"Do you really think these explosion potions are going to destroy it?" I asked.
"I don't know, just fire all you can to destroy it. Toss kegs of conflagaration if it works, just destroy it!"
We didn't need to be told another time. We were racing out the door with bottles of explosion potions before the sage downstairs could wish us farewell.

Too bad. Blackrock can't be destroyed by pretty much anything, and it is immune to all magic. I wonder if UO has a mobile for The Guardian ...

You're right but I don't want to spoil what happens
.
I don't believe that there's a destined mobile for the guardian but then again, there's a ton of mobiles and I'm sure one of them would be a good fit.
Also, I try to keep the storyline as close to original UO lore as possible but there may be a few things that differ.

For those who know about blackrock, expect something similar with an AOV twist.

Blackrock goes well in the BBQ instead of charcoal.

Strange Occurances at the Magincia Ruins

by The Sosarian Standard
We tore through the Magincia moongate on horseback to get to the meteor as fast as we could. Mordak tore ahead of me, accidently dropping an explosion potion from his backpack. It hit the ground and a cloud of flame rose into the air. I pulled the reins on my horse quick enough to dodge the brunt of the explosion.
There was a loud scraping noise ahead of me as Mordak's horse pulled back and let out a loud neigh. A stamping of horse hooves created a thick cloud of sand which brushed my face as I galloped ahead to where Mordak was standing.
"Woah". The low oooo noise that flew out of Mordak's mouth was enough to have me convinced that something was out of place. We arched our necks towards the sky to see that the barrier had doubled in side.
"How you suppose we're going to get in there now?" Mordak asked as he looked around for an opening.
"Stand back..." I said as we moved our horses away from the opening. I placed several explosion potions in a pouch, tied it up with a rope and began to sling it in the air.
"Wait, we might need those!!" Mordak cried. I slowed down my swinging and returned the tied up pouch to hang losely at my side.
"Mordak, if we don't get in, we might not get the chance to use these!" I said as I continued slinging the pouch in the air again. Mordak looked at me for a second, then proceeded to step back several more paces.
The grip on the rope escaped my hands and the pouch took off with a burst of velocity. As it hit the wall, an earth shattering boom sent pieces of wood and stone flying. A stone barely missed my face as I threw up my arm to shield my eyes from dust particles. When the dust settled, a large hole remained.
We both rode through the enclosure and found ourselves inside the empty remains of the Magincia ruins. As I galloped towards the meteor, I kept praying that nothing bad happened. Zurol's words echoed through my head: "Destroy it! Before it's too late!".
As we reached the site of the meteor, we were surprised to see an audience waiting there. Hundreds of people there were wrapped in clothing of blue and white. Numerous swords, bows and spellbooks rested in their hands.
We galloped towards the bridge and immediately noticed Karl Xen on a large blue horse, beside him stood Lord Kane.
"What's going on?" Mordak asked.
I looked passed the crowd towards the meteor. It was gone. For a moment, I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that the council of mages destroyed it before we arrived. My heart sank as I noticed the bridge was dusted with black soot and dozens of black pebbles.
I approached the bridge after noticing a large set of footprints. I followed them with my eyes to a spot on the grass, where the footprints continued. I knelt down and placed my outstretched palm over the imprint. It was almost three times the size of my hand, surely not a good sign.
"What happened here?" I asked as I returned to standing position.
"We woke up this morning and found the meteor missing. Something happened to it, it must have morphed into something. Either that or the meteor was a shell or prison for some kind of beast" Karl Xen said.
I flashed back to earlier on, our meeting with the Alchemist of Moonglow. The images from Zurol's book became vivid in my mind. The massive figures, terrorizing humans and elves in the book. I had no doubt in my mind, that one of these monstrosities, was now on the loose in Sosaria.
"Do you know where it went?" I asked, a hint of panic in my voice.
"We didn't see it go, but we're hoping it hadn't gone far. I'll take my men out to search for it." Karl Xen said as a group of his members followed him through the barricade.
"Watch out you two. If you see anything unusual, let us know" Lord Kane said as he followed the group.
Mordak and I were all that remained. We stood on the bridge in awe and defeat. We hadn't made it in time. If only we had destroyed the rock the first time when we were getting a sample of it.
As I stared at the bridge once more, I noticed one of the small pebbles.
"Wait a second, I've seen this before. Haven't I? No wait! Yes, I have!"
I picked up the pebble and examined it. I fumbled into my pockets, spilling the contents out of it. The golden pendant fell to the ground where I immediately picked it up and placed it next to the stone.
"Blackrock! They're both blackrock Mordak!" I exclaimed.
"Maybe the alchemist knows more about this pendant!" I said, returning the pendant to my pocket. I mounted my horse, yelling "Come on, back to Moonglow!" to Mordak.
We raced back through the passage we made, waving to several council of mages fighters before vanishing through the moongate to Moonglow.
