Age Of Valor Rules

These rules are subject to change at any time and at that point I'll probably make a post to make it clear that a change got made. These rules apply both to in game and in forums and are here to help everyone enjoy their time here.

1- If you find a flaw or exploit in the game, do not use it, instead, report it, and it can be looked at further in a test environment. Exploits can ruin the game, so lets work together and make sure they get fixed. An example of an exploit would be things like:
- Ways to make tons of gold or obtain items with little to no effort (scripting is a large culprit here)
- Server script exploits that let you do things you should not (like dupe items, run faster, etc)
- Ways to cause the server to crash

2 - Do not make fake exploit/bug reports or start conspiracies about someone using an exploit in hopes they get banned, or even making a fake "hacker" character to stir up trouble. If you think a bug exists and is serious, be ready to fully explain it when approaching staff. If you are asked questions and go around it, we will assume you don't want to disclose the bug but want to use it instead. If you suspect someone may be using an exploit PM staff, do not try to start a huge commotion on the forums, and do not make a character name the same as the suspect to try to stir things up. This is grounds for permanent ban.

3- Third party programs such as EasyUO, UO Assist, etc are ALLOWED. However, PlayUO and any other customizable clients are NOT allowed. They are not blocked, but it does not mean you can use them. (Blocking requires some sophisticated packet analysis which would probably cause too much overhead). Basically if we see anyone running too fast, or through walls/tombstones, etc, we know they are using a disallowed client.

4- Do not ask to be staff. If we need staff, it will be posted as an announcement. The shard is still small so there is currently no need of more staff and no plans to hire more, yet.

5- Do not insult other people. Trash talk threads are not allowed to any extent, and will be deleted/moved if they get personal or if anyone involved in the thread requests it to be stopped. If someone is harassing you in game, page a GM, and if we can see in time, the person will be creatively taken care of, however we cannot guarantee anything.

6- No hammering/spamming macros or hot keys. Use reasonable delays for your macros, and don't perform operations faster than needed. If someone is found to be using excessive bandwidth but not appearing to be doing much in game, they will be disconnected. If you have a macro with text, delay it by at least 30 seconds between each text.

7- AFK resource gathering is ALLOWED. However, we wont make it easy, and if staff is bored, we might spawn stuff or mess with you, however we will not confiscate resource, jail, ban, etc... Basically, it's allowed, but do it at your own risk, and we still recommend you at least keep an eye on stuff. Idealy we will try to make it hard to do via game mechanics and not actually interact directly. This is just to add an element of challenge. This rule is subject to change, as it is simply an experiment for the time being.

8- Do not ask staff for any items or character mods (skills, stats, etc). Everyone works hard for their items so it is not right for a person to simply get something for free.

9- There is a limit of 3 accounts per person. If you have more then 3 accounts due to previous rules, be sure to consolidate into 3, or give away other accounts, or simply take the items and let them decay. We also discourage account sharing. It could potentially lead to your accounts being banned if ever we need to ban someone. It also makes password recovery very difficult if impossible. NOTE: Currently, we are not enforcing this, you can have as many account as you want, HOWEVER if we decide to readd this rule, you will NOT be grandfathered, so we recommend you keep your main characters on no more than 3 accounts, but if you want you can make "throw away" accounts for resource gathering, or what not.

10- Do not advertise and spam about other shards. If you wish to play on other UO servers, then that's fine. Basically what this means is do not put down the server with the intention of getting players to leave. You play the server because you like what it has to offer. If you do not like the server, there are plenty of other ones that can suit your needs.

11- Do not repeatedly bother staff about something like events, or when something will be done, etc... Whenever someone bugs us we simply delay it more. So if you keep asking for an event, not not expect one that day. Also do not ask staff to do something while they are on regular chars. Regular chars are that, regular chars. We can take a break and play too sometimes. Excessive staff bugging will render you in jail or even a temp ban.

12 - removed, was basically a duplicate of 7. (did not want to renumber in case other rules are referred to by number in other posts)

13 - We are NOT responsible for lost items. This includes donation items. Use common sense with items such as using insurance or locking down properly. Also we are not responsible for items lost due to game bugs. Please report if this happens with as much detail as possible so we can fix the bug, but we cannot return such items as it is too easy for this to turn into a scam. We want to fix any bug that would render an item lost, so we do want to know about it, but we cannot give it back due to lack of being able to know for sure it was caused by a bug. Basically we will want to try to reproduce it, and if we can, we will fix it, but unfortunately cannot compensate. However we may still end up compensating on a case by case basis for helping us find and fix a bug.

15 - You may use an auto loot script, but please be courteous and turn it off if fighting with other people, so everyone has a fair chance at loot, unless everyone around is ok with you using it.

All rules subject to change, normally an announcement will be made if the change is drastic enough to be worth mentioning.

Staff Rules

1- No staff is allowed to give items away or modify characters in any way. There are logs and they are looked at when suspicious items enter the game. Prizes for events and such are the only exception to this, as long as the event was posted on the forum ahead of time to give everyone the chance to know about it. Unannounced event prizes can only be in gold and under 1 milion gold.

2- No "[tile static" or other equivalent building techniques unless it's temporary and will be removed (ex: for en event). These are NOT static, but are items, and add to world save times, and can lag people that enter such area as it has to load all those items in such a small screen area. For any construction work, use housing system and give as much effort as possible to completely avoid using items. (houses are multis and get processed client side once cached, reducing item count) Before starting any such structure please talk to me ahead of time to have it approved.

3- Staff is not allowed to kill, or assist in killing of players or monsters in any way, for any reason. If a player should be banned it should be discussed with me first but don't go seeking revenge against players by abusing your powers.

4- Staff may not perform any acts that can lead to the death of a player, such as changing a spawner on someone that is AFK or even adding a gargoyle pickaxe to a miner bot. AFK resource gathering is illegal but staff should give the player a few minutes to react.

5- If a player dies because of something you did, you should rez them and refund the insurance money, this can be anything from accidentally killing due to hit area on a weapon, or if you spawned a mob to show and the player dies, etc... but just be careful what you do to avoid accidentally killing players.

6- To test stuff that could potentially interfeer with other's playing, use the test server. With the test server you can test any command, theres no danger as I can restore the world quickly should something go wrong.

7- Do not share your account, wether its a player account or a GM account. This is too risky and there have already been problems due to this. If someone wants to play just to try out, make them a full blown char on the test server (not production) so they can run around and see what there is to do, then they can start a normal char on the real server.

Not following any of these rules (player or staff rules) can involve getting disconnected, jailed, items removed, or even temp ban. The punishment depends on the situation.

In the case of staff it will result in a demotion and possibly staff status removal, or in worse cases, a ban. But I want to avoid bans as much as possible for any situation.

There ARE logs and I use various searching methods such as grep to look for suspicious items. Outside of SW times there is very little reason to use [add or [props other then spawners and event system controllers.
