I don't know why, but the routing to this server is totally messed up. To demise I ping like 25 - 50ms all the time. To here it's more like 150ms, similar to me connecting to a server in the UK. The packet route takes me around half the US before coming back to texas. Some retarded router needs its firmware updated...

Think I'll look into trying another host or something. That's about the only thing I can try at the moment since I've tried everything else.
I'll setup a Halo server for secondary testing as well. Do you happen to have that game? Would be a good way to test. UO uses like no bandwidth so a halo server would not even do a dent in the usage. It's not so much bandwidth, but latency thats the issue here. Host won't do anything since they just blame it on other factors. (like any ISP would do)
If it does turn out it's the host I'll just switch to whatever host Demise uses. I can traceroute and find out. Then we'll be sure to not have problems. I'm pretty sure the occasional Demise lag is server side, such as 50 e. being on the same screen and casting evil omen + exp+fs at the same time to gank a new character going to fel for the first time after renouncing young status.

That's what I'm talking about. This morning my route is how it is always supposed to be:

From GA straight to TX, and voila stable ~30ms, same as demise. It would be great if it stayed this way all the time.
Trace complete.

If you want to set up a halo server this evening, I might be able to test it out connection wise (While at the same time, taking your banshee down with a well placed rocket). Either way it'll be entertaining.

The IP you use on forum is your home one right? Like you're not connecting through any type of proxy or school network?
Since I did a traceroute to the IP that shows up on the forums so I'm assuming its the same one you connect (or try) to uo and I think I found the culpit.
Code: Select all
1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 9.c4.1343.static.theplanet.com [67.19.196.9]

5 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms dcr2-ge-4-0-0.dallas.savvis.net [208.172.139.129

8 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 208.175.175.34
9 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms dal-core-02.inet.qwest.net [205.171.225.6]
10 * * * Request timed out.
11 48 ms 48 ms 48 ms bos-core-01.inet.qwest.net [205.171.8.113]
12 48 ms 48 ms 48 ms bos-brdr-01.ip.qwest.net [205.171.28.38]
13 58 ms 57 ms 57 ms 63.239.36.54
136 ping may be low, but that's damn high if its a router thats a gigabit link away from the next one... I'm going to report this and hopefully they can do something so you can play. Odd it's only affecting you this bad though though. Then again about half the shard is affected in some way or the other by this lag problem. It's on and off.

lol @ 360.
But yes, making such a post will magically allow Squirrel fix your problems. This thread acts as a key to unlock the secret of lag. Not.

You know there are SOME times where I get pretty bad lag, originally I thought it was because Squirrel was hosting the server himself at home. lol. But I haven't had it really bad in a very very long time. And I play on 3D!

Whats odd is that traceroute is normal now... so I can't really report that if it's not always happening. I don't get why some lag and some don't. It rules out being people's internet, and it rules out being the server, so what could it be?! This is frustrating. If you want to try Halo for PC pm me since we can at least rule out whether or not the issue is only UO related. Since we're talking packet loss here, a simple file download won't really act as a good test.

Have you tried just 2D? Also I said this earlyer but check if smart cpu reduction is off in razor. If it's on you'll lag as if you were on dialup.
