This is the stupidest bill I have ever seen. The fact that it's been into play for over 3 years makes me wonder "Do they not have anything better to be thinking about?".

Same, but the little buggers are getting smart these days. All it takes is the kid's help line number after an episode of Dora the Explorer.

The kids aren't getting smarter its the dumbass people that advocate timeouts and stern lectures instead of good ole fear-induced respect, putting silly messages out their like that.

Soft, wussy fruits. They've turned discipline into a battle of wills. Parent vs Child. I don't advocate ABUSE but I do advocate a beating where necessary.

True. I remember to this day, second my mom got that pissed off face and stomped towards the kitchen for the wooden ruler, that instantly shut us up. Mad respect for her I've got. We've been known to bring this topic up when the whole family's together and just laugh about it.

Like one time my sister and I thought we were all smart because when she went to go get the ruler, we had hidden it. So she reached into the drawer and got a thicker wooden spoon.

I remember one time my mother broke a spoon over my ass.
I thought that was the funniest thing EVER in my 6 years...

So I laughed. Guffawed really.... boy did that piss her off.

She ran to the kitchen and got her only other spoon.... I was just starting to cry again when she hit me and broke this one too. I laughed so hard there was snot all over my pillow. She was apoplectic.

In the kitchen again, for a plastic slotted spoon.... back in my room to furiously beat impudent me....2 swipes later that broke too. My ass had welts on it and I didn't care. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe...

She got really angry and threw the spoon handle...through my window.

I remember that as one of the last beatings I ever got. She just gave up after that. Prolly cost too much....

lol in my family with my mom, it was like a scene from Cheech and Chong's "Earache my Eye". My mom used to give us a smack on the bare ass with her hand, but she couldn't hit hard enough, so we'd laugh because the blow was a mere "tickle".

So she got pissed at our smart mouths and got the wooden ruler instead (And I'm not talking the cheap Hilroy ones they get in school today, I'm talking the thick ones back in the day where you had to break it against your knee like kindling in order to actually snap one).

That shut us up pretty quickly. The wooden spoon was the Omega of all disciplinary items though. If that thing came out, you vanished fast.

Wow this world is getting so retarded about "Safety" and "kid ethics" and all that crap.

If a kid does not listen and is told over and over and still wont listen, then is threatened physical pain and STILL won't listen - they deserve the physical pain.

Soon they'll just ban discipline completely as it will be considered "phsycological abuse" or "verbal abuse". It's retarded.

I got spanked as a kid and I'm not mental or don't have permanent physical evidence of it... I'm still alive. Heck I remember her running after me around the coffee table and I grabbed the magna doodle to shield my butt and she just hit it instead and it broke, so much for what was my favorite toy. :P haha

I was a super bad kid too way back, probably in the 2-3 year old stage. I heard horror stories and I think "woah I was really THAT bad?"

Then I fell off cement stairs and hit my head really hard and totally changed. I don't remember that far back though.

So if your kid is very bad, throw off cement stairs.

I'll say it since someone else probably will:

"So THATs what happened!"

:P

Oh man, I was a bad kid too. Like kindergarten I was terrible. I still remember the spot my mom kept the "spanking stick". It's not there anymore though cause they changed the counters.

When we got older (Like 14 and stuff) and the spanking phase turned into the grounding phase, I remember my dad did a gag where he drilled a hole in the old ruler and hung it from the counter. Got a kick out of that.

I was the worst kid I've ever known.
Four arrests by the time I was 8.
Burnt down an abandoned building in the middle of the day.
Broke into my neighbours house. (Several neighbours, several times)
Went on a theft spree through my home town. Garages, schools, stores etc. Whatever I could.
Robbed a coffee truck at 14. (Middle of the night. I don't do face to face)
Prolly stole at least 5k in merch from local big box stores. (D&D ain't cheap...but it was for me!)

I've deserved every beating I got.

you guys are all newbs. I had METAL TOYS. The big yellow metal tonka truck... It was impossible to play with that without bleeding. At 10 years old I got a woodburning kit, ouch. It was like a soldering iron for wood. A year later I got a bb gun. Not the red rider spring action, but the 20 pump air powered model. At 6 I got the biggest swiss army knife you could ever imagine, 50 different ways of slicing off the tip of a finger. We played Evil Kneval with our huffy bikes, jumping everything we could find. Without a helmet. I was also encouraged to go out and catch the local wildlife. No matter how cute or safe a creature looks, it bites. And it bites hard. We were encouraged to climb trees and play in an old rotten treehouse(it even had some black and white porno mags). We played army, where we shot, attacked, and captured each other.

And thats what was considered PLAY TIME.

Lawn Darts. 'nuff said? Tonka trucks that were as big as me. And made of steel.

I once stole my fathers rifle and shot the kitchen radio when they were at work.

He trashed all the firing pins after that....

I still have my metal tonkas, they still look as good as new. They're in the shed, and no I don't play with them anymore. :P I used to enjoy using the dump truck as a stateboard.

Do that with today's crappy plastic toys and they'll break so easily.

lol I think everyone had the tonka truck. The metal one with the super sharp edges which, in desperate times, could be used to cut sirloin. It's probably still in the shed with all the other destructive kid's toys from the late 80's early 90's.

My tonka truck is in the time capsule, um I mean, garage at my parents house.

Oh me and my friends used to get dowel rods and closet rods and play like knights and shit with them. Broke my nose 6 times before the age of 10 because of that (Broke 3 of my friend's arms, one of them I broke both arms twice on different occasions). Think I sent friends to the hospital at least once a summer fighting like that. When I got older I joined a Kendo class.

Me and my friends used to rob all sorts of places when we were young. I mean like country clubs and gas stations. We were really good at being clepto's too, used to lift so much shit its ridiculous, once we drove off in 3 "Big Wheels" when they first came out and our parents told us they cost too much.

When we were all in Middle school we started playing with M80s and other explosives since one of my friend's dad was an ex marine and kept a whole buncha fun dangerous shit around. We blew up our principles car during a school dance, the cops loved that but could never figure out we were the ones that did it. To this day I don't remember ever being caught for anythign we did, although we did gt chased by cops alot. It's amazing how easy it is to lose a cop on a bike when you know all the dead ends, and grass/dirt cut throughs in a town.

And for me it wasn't my mom. She's the one that yelled at us. When me or my sister did soemthing really bad she'd just get all calm and say "You're dad gets hope at 7, YOU will tell him what you did when he gets here." He'd get home and you better hope you could convince him he didn't need to take off his belt, or else you wouldn't be sitting down for a while.

It's funny reading what you guy's are saying, I was too that child that did what ever I could to get into trouble. At this paticular grocery store would take back plastic milk jugs for 50 cents ea. well I got pretty good at snaging them and return them time and time again till I got caught. Cops showed up dad beat me with a wooden handle w/leather strap attached to it that looked like a snakes tongue and talk about STING that fuker hurt. They mom decided to keep the dam thing for years after that till my brother got smart and threw it in the wood stove. Anyway just one of my little stories in life.

More to add fuel to the fire

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/06/ ... alcomments

I particularly enjoyed this part:

"She told her fellow senators of a visit she had with 60 elementary school students who sat in the Senate seats and debated the spanking issue."

"I am pleased to report that they unanimously voted to repeal this legislative provision," she said.

Well no shit. If you're in elementary school, you're not going to approve spanking. Your brain is not developed enough to appreciate the protective measures your parents use on you. You only realize this in adulthood.

I can just imagine what she said to them:

"Hello boy's and girls, you're here today because we're thinking of passing a bill to prevent spanking. If it goes through, if your parents spank you, they'll get in big trouble. What do you guys think about this? Is it alright for your parents to spank you?"

That's like finding 20 bucks under the couch cushions to an elementary school student.

"Children have told me that if they have done something wrong, their parents can punish them by telling them not to play with their video [games] or not watching television. Children know there are different ways of disciplining. You do not have to attack their integrity; you still must respect them as individuals."

This is a respectable form of discipline sure, but sometimes it doesn't get the message across. Like if your kid is throwing a fit, talking to them is not going to do anything. A smack to the pants gets the message across, especially when they're young and won't listen. I'm sure we've all seen the ladies on the bus or in the grocery store who's got the kid crying or yelling at the top of their lungs and they keep saying "Quit complaining" or "shut it" and the kid just keeps going like an ambulance siren.

I'm sorry but when you raise a hellion like me soft forms of punishment don't always work. But knowing that if I did something really bad that when my I knew I was gunna get my ass whupped for it kept me out of more trouble than not. Which is saying soemthing cuz I got in alot. Its just true.

I'm not saying parents shouldn't use other forms of punishment, but honestly it's like saying we should get rid of captital punishment, its retarded. I mean if you do something bad enough your parents should be allowed, nay, encouraged, to smack you for it. It's called classical conditioning. That said, people need to know where to draw the line, abuse is NOT ok. If a good solid thwack for soemthing you did doesn't work, maybe parents should look into boarding school or some other greater form of punishment, but we shouldn't take away a parents most effective form of discipline.

On a similar note, we shouldn't get rid of capital punishment. I'm sorry if you killed 7 people, or killed 2 people then ate them, or maybe raped 10 women. You should be put down like the animal you are. It's just another way our society is going soft. And I am a liberal saying this, not a bleeding heart liberal, a stab-you-in-the-heart liberal.[/i]
