Upcoming server upgrade!

I will be performing a server upgrade in the next few days. This is a test phase and may not happen.
I plan to install Linux as the host OS and put a windows VM for the shard.
I will then use the Linux portion to host websites, starting with my own.
Specs:
Model: Intel Dual Xeon 2.8GHz Processor
Monthly Price:
$147.00
Setup Fee:
Free
Configuration:
DRIVE CONTROLLER: IDE
PRIMARY HARD DRIVE: 80GB Hard Drive
SECONDARY HARD DRIVE: 80GB Hard Drive
OPERATING SYSTEM: CentOS Enterprise Linux, Version 5
MEMORY: 2048 MB RAM
BACKUP: None
FIREWALL: None
ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE: None
CONTROL PANEL: None
WEB ANALYTICS: None
SQL SERVER: None
BILLING PACKAGE: None
VIRTUAL PRIVATE SERVER SOFTWARE: None
IP ADDRESSES: 10 IP Addresses
BANDWIDTH: 2500 GB Bandwidth
UPLINK PORT SPEED: 100 Mbps Uplink
IPMI: IPMI
SECONDARY PROCESSOR: Second Xeon Processor (2.8 - 533)
This is simply an unpassable deal. It's normally near 300/mo for this setup. I asked if I could get the server before buying so I can test a setup and it was not an issue at all. This price is for good, and the sales rep from The Planet was even nice enough to wave the setup fee.

Think it depends on the area. I hardly ever lag, I usually have a good connection cept for the odd time.

Yeah right now we're not hosted in a VM but the server's resources are mostly wasted, so I'm hoping this setup will let me use the server for other stuff but same time hope it wont lag the shard.
The server is setup and VMware is installed, tonight I'll be putting windows in the VM and do a test run of the shard. If all goes well I'll do a switchover. I'll try to make it as seamless as possible.

FTW! Yes, thats *FOUR* CPUs! Though the shard will only be using two, as thats all VMware server supports. But whats good about that is the shard wont affect hosting. Once the shard is all set and working well I'll work on configuring the server for web hosting in linux environment.

Got windows installed in the VM. Setting up security and stuff right now. I am compressing TC1 and will be uploading all the data once its ready to do a trial run of the shard.
I'm hoping by SW tonight I can open it up for everyone to test.
Stuff like backup scripts and what not I'll work on once its for sure that everything works properly.

New server is up for testing!
To get on it, pick "AoV TC2:VMSRV" in the server list. (don't mind the client errors, has to do with the colon, forgot about that
)
I invite everyone to get on with as many accounts as you can (even more then 3 if you want to make more / use friends etc)
I want to do a basic load test. I can run a basic event that wont really count for anything just for testing purposes.
This is set as a TC server so GM commands work.
Note that the current server still remains official until further notice!

Wow way this is going, we will move servers, but I'll leave it up overnight for more testing.
Ping is actually better on there, and theres no lag at all, I really expected that lot of mobs would be more laggy but not at all. Think things even got better in a sense.

(don't mind the localhost part, thats because its a SSH tunnel)
I tried a global hue on all mobs, its taking a while but thats always taken at least a good 5 minutes.

I'm currently transferring the bulk of the data to the new server, obviously the actual shard data will be the very last thing and I'll wait till SW to do that.
I have a plan in mind that will make the transition very smooth.
This is actually very exciting for me as in the end, I'll have a full dedicated linux box in a world class data center to play on. I'll take a break but eventually will move my sites to there and potentially offer hosting or other online services to make up costs. Maybe even make it AoV member only guild site hosting or something. I have not decided that part yet.
