Both me and Damien have been experiencing major periods of lag on the server. One minute we are pinging 40-80, next we are pinging 900-1200. The major lag usually lasts for 10-30 minutes and is totally unplayable. Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Please post traceroutes when this happens. I need as much as possible to try and diagnose the issue. it is an ongoing issue.

windows:

tracert login.uovalor.com >file.txt

linux:

traceroute login.uovalor.com >file.txt

Then post the content of file.txt. You can name this anything you want, just easier to copy/paste if you output to file.

actually instead of tracert use pathping, its one of those hidden windows commands people don't normally think of, but its pretty cool. its kinda like tracert but it pings more then once to get a more accurate reading.

And you're typing this in command prompt right? wont work if its just in run.

Click on "Start" and then click on "Run"

Type in CMD and press "OK"

In the big black box type PATHPING LOGIN.UOVALOR.COM and press "Enter" on your keyboard.

This will take a few minutes to run, but you can still do other stuff while it does it's thing.

From there you can do a screenshot and send, or you can do the following:

right-click on the black box somewhere and click on "Mark"

Use the mouse to highlight and select all the text on the screen, and press "Enter" on your keyboard to send that text to the clipboard.

Open up Notepad or even these forums, and paste text into a post.

There is the PathPing.

I have no idea why I am lagging so damn hard. I believe it may be partially my ISP's fault. I upgradded to the "faster" comcast cable, and recently it's been really slow (not nearly as fast as I used to be). I call them and they tell me random stupid shit I've obviously already tried, like restarting my router or unplugging my internet for 5 mins and restarting my comp etc. All 7 computers in my house have been slow. The lady on the phone asked me to turn off all my firewall/protections and I rofled in her face. I'm not risking my gaming computer I've invested plenty of money in. So yea, idk what the deal is really, I might need to just get a new ISP, because comcast has a bunch of idiots working for them.

actually tracert may be useful as well, so when you hit a spike do the tracert as well. did not realize pathping did not show the avg ping time.

You're lagged across the board there. That probably is a Comcast or local issue. Try doing a traceroute to other major sites and see what you get.

yea, ever since i switched to comcast i have been let down. I had heard some decent things about them, but from my personal experience I can say that you really dont get your money's worth from them.

Is it possible weather has anything to do with it? Ever since we have had some major snow falls it feels like I've been lagging more, not sure if it's possible for it to clear up around spring =p. It's something to hope for lol.

If your first hop is like this:

1 1829 ms 1568 ms 2094 ms 73.48.28.1

you are pretty much hosed when trying to go anywhere. Any connection to any server must go through the gateway, which for you is 73.48.28.1. Your provider is screwing you.

It's probably something simple too. You just need to request to get an engineer out to look at your local connection from your house out the wherever the local box is and stuff.

You use a router I assume? If you plug your computer directly to the cable modem and restart your computer and cable modem, is it all still slow? If it is, could even be a bad modem or something.

yea tech support dosent knowshit but I'll try to get someone out here to check the local area.

As for plugging in my comp directly to my conn, that will be a no go. I got 7 comps in my house and the server is in the basement and I play upstairs, It'd be a pain to make room in my basement to test it =p. Hopefully it works itself out or I can get someone from comcast to come out here, we'll see.

Is your server or whatever in the basement getting the same traceroute and slowness? Just plug that server computer or whatever you have directly in and see if the pings are better that way.

That is the first theing the onsite comcast guy will want to do.

Yeah I do biz tech support for internet, and thats what we do too. It is unsecure, but its only for a minute max, just to test. Or if its a cisco router you can even just ping from there.
