I was thinking, people often refer to how better pre aos UO was.
So I was thinking, how could would it be to combine the AoS/ML stuff, with th pre AOS stuff, if its even possible.
What are some key elements of pre AoS that made it better, or systems that existed then?
The chaos guild system comes to mind, as well as some mage spells working differently.
Also, armor comes to mind. Leather should have lower resists, plate should do a full 70 suit even with just regular crafted properties, for example.

Impossible. The good ol' days of UO was when you can be stolen from anywhere . . . when you died to lost your stuff and the like. It can never be recreated while keeping ML and AoS in the mix.
Just my 2.

If it's restricted to felucca, it can be. Felucca would represent the pre-aos days (As the only facet WAS felucca, brittania to be exact). Count in the lost lands if you factor in the second age. All rules could change in that facet but a ton of exceptions would need to be made (If we went 100% accurate, necromancy and samurai moves would be disabled for example and weapons with properties would not be equipable. Depends how far we took things).

Actually, now THAT would be awesome.
Though this would be huge to do, so best to concentrate on whats not done, but something to think about for sure.

True . . . however many people who wouldn't want to lose their items would still want to do champ spawns and AoAs.

There would be exceptions here as well. Because early uo also means no champions so the felucca champions would probably get moved to trammel. Also, trammel does not represent a pvp facet so that would also have to change and from there the 10th aniversary artifacts.....you get the idea

. If there were a way to make a completely old school version there's 2 options:
-Change felucca to that method
-Create a new shard branch (In the listing)

Hrm. Very interesting idea. I find that many people like "old uo" not because of what it had to offer . . . but because of the fact that it was their first glimpse into the awesomeness of Uo. As their friends move onwards and their skill advances, The current UO as they see it is just not the same. I remember when earth elementals
I mean, I loved Hybrid because I got my first gold killing Mongbats there. Then after about a day I started really playing and made a mill + a week.
A whole new server would be awesome, but is not only fiscally unfair to Red but also hard since our player base isn't as good as other shards. Mainly because all the advertisement goes to them, not to us. Regardless of how superior we happen to be. :/

The reason champs are in fel is risk vs reward though. But my 2 cents on trying to mix...it won't work. Mostly because of insurance. The whole reason they put in insurance was to be able to hold onto your precious artifacts. Is a kewl idea, but will not work as people will get frustrated with trying to get a suit together just to lose it, then leave.

I agree with Enkel. Trying to combine AoS and pre-AoS is next to impossible. As Enkel said, insurance is a main problem. Also, item mods that didn't exist pre-AoS.
There are certain things, such as the Order/Chaos system, that could be implemented on an AoS shard though.
In my opinion, the best things that were lost are:
-Armor AR and dex penalties. I remember always using a bronze or gold heavy archer suit because it gave you a decent amount of AR without as much dex loss. (I did gold or bronze because I died a lot and I couldn't afford to reguarly buy upper-level ore armor.)
-The simplicity with weapons. I'm not saying I hate AoS weapons, but I did appreciate how simple it was way back when. Back when a simple, iron, GM crafted weapon was adequate enough to use on a regular basis.
-The variety of templates. With the introduction of the arty system, players began basing their templates solely on the items they could obtain, and therefore, different player types began to get phased out. I remember when the halberd was one of the ultimate weapons. These days, people disregard them because they are slow, regardless of the damage they inflict. The same goes for heavy mace weapons.
-The music. I'm not sure when the log-in music changed, but I absolutely loved it.
That's all I can think of right now.
Anyways, I'd support having a new shard added to the list that is only pre-AoS. The only problem I see with it is that it could fragment the already small player-base we have here.

My opinion was if the shard went down then a hybrid shard would take its place. A mix between the best of all worlds from Original UO to AOS to SE/ML. Hopefully it doesn't come to that though.

Ah, Pre-AOS. That's the pvp era I'm familiar with. No moded items, just plain toe-to-toe combat. IMO, Pre-AOS and the current expansions won't mix. Pre-AOS is skill-based whereas AOS and latter expansions require a combo of good skills and good items (and good macros also

). Nonetheless, I have no qualms about the current expansions.

It was simpler and lent more fun than needing to know the #s. Ignorance is bliss.
I miss using a Heater Shield and a War Mace to fight Daemons. I miss the trade-off of stats for more AR. I miss the immersion. That to me is what UO is.

Pre-AOS PVP was rock paper scissors. Fencer beats Mage, Mage beats Macer, and Macer beats Fencer. Macer *at random* takes away stamina equal to their weapon skill/4, and fencers get random paralyzing blows. Mages only have one tactic: Paralyze, explode, repeat.

You're talking about during the Tribal Spear days. And it wasn't random, it was more like Hit, Paralyze, Hit, Hit, Hit, Paralye, Miss, Paralyze, Hit, Miss, Hit, Hit.
Sometimes the fencers got lucky and got a Paralyze every hit.

I miss when I was a macing fencer. One of the first ones. I also had a heater, buckler and metal shield on me at all times. It was rock-paper scisors with weapons also. Kryss vs the mage. kryss+buckler vs war fork, kryss, or kat. War mace vs most dexxers to pwn the armor. war axe vs nub mages with no dex. Q stick worked just as well too. Oh man. I miss the rape that was Q-tip.
But that was when we would duel nightly in Atlantic. Ohmygooses I miss it. I restarted doing it on Atlantic post AOS with Gio and some others. Just sucked when mages would win 100% time against me :/

Yes, I'm talking tribal spear days. I'm talking about T2A and before.
"d." wrote:Wrong.
No. You're wrong. Everyone played Macers, Fencers, and Mages. No swordsmen, except maybe one of two lumberjacks. But, that wasn't as common as a fencer. Fencers were definately the flavor of the month.

Absolutely. But, remember. That's back when potions were actually used. Now, you get called a noob for potting.

I do, too. I remember back when krysses, warforks, and quarterstaves scared me. Now, butcher knives and cleavers scare me. What the hell, that's retarded. Nerf the kitchen tools.

LOL @ nerf the kitchen tools.
It's true though. Since when does a cleaver do more damage then a big ass double axe irl? lol. but in UO it does.
I rather be hit twice with a cleaver then hit once with a double axe. But in UO the two cleaver hits are faster and more damaging.

I have a turn of the 1900s old fashioned butcher's cleaver. The blade is 12" long and about 8" wide. I bought it off of ebay, it was well used with hammer marks on the back from cutting through cow bone(at least I hope it was cow bone). It cuts off deer legs with 1 chop. I can supply pics on request if anyone doubts me. Not all cleavers are the pussy ass pampered chef things they sell in magazines.
True story, my ex went psycho on me. Like totally fuckin nuts, she was gonna kill me in my sleep nuts. I invited her and some of her family over for grilled steaks. I ran out of the kitchen with that cleaver, stuck it into my coffee table about 6" from where she was sitting, and laughed hysterically about how much I scared her. It was the last time she contacted me. Yeah... no contact whatsoever. Cleavers can be scary things. On the other hand I also have a 12" steak knife.
