This sounds like one of those scams, but it's not.
Our dollar did a face plant today. So I transferred like 4 grand worth of US funds into my bank, and made money off the exchange rate. At the time that money was transferred our dollar was par with US dollar.
I'll continue monitoring the rates. This financial crisis is actually kind of exciting.

Too bad I converted all my life savings into Icelandic krónur. I was hoping they had pictures of Björk on them.
My macroeconomics professor tried to explain currency fluctuations, but I think any kind of investments I ever make in that market will go under the category of gambling. I just can’t grasp it.

Well US is pretty much the hub of economy, they go down, everyone else does.
It's actually kind of scary that as a country we can't sustain ourselves without depending on others' economy though.

I, for one, can’t wait for our economy to collapse, because then
everyone will use Linux (when they have electricity). Oh happy day!

Hmm interesting article.
Our reliance on china is actually a very dangerous thing. In fact China could become the richest country quite easily if they arn't already. They just need to suddently jack up all prices. Though they should concentrate on actually paying their employees decent waiges... I find it terrible that slavery is still present in today's world, and we actually support it indirectly. Yes, paying someone 10 cents per day is slavery imo.
And yeah adoption of open source would be a good one for sure.

If China raised prices, people would stop buying from them. And both sides would take a beating from it.

Funny you mention that as I've been considering it, just need to talk to a financial advisor. I don't know much about how the stock market works.

Yeah true. Though imo our governments (US and Canada) need to do something about this china thing. It's very bad when it cost less to have items made across the world and shipped, then to make them here, when we DO have the resources. Like I like to use pencils as an example. Here in Canada we have a pretty strong lumber and mining industry. So making a pencil should not be very hard right? But we still get china to make them.
Pencils.

It’s
always a good time for young people to start a (Roth) IRA and buy index funds – after they’ve paid down their debts and saved enough in a savings account for emergency expenses.

I got like 20k that I should probably be investing more, actually. I've invested some of it such as putting in a "high interest savings account" but I mean, its still like only 5% interest or something like that, nothing insane.

Aren’t you saving that for a house? If you plan on spending the money in the next few years, I wouldn’t put it in the stock market.

Oh that 20k would not go towards stocks, more like interest growing. Stuff that I know will work. I would not risk it. AT most I may take like 1k and put into stocks but not more then that.

when the economy collapses, my friends and I are planning to rob this gun store and take all the guns.
We also might hide in our friend's bomb shelter and play D&D until everything works out.

Some atheists sure handle themselves like just another self-righteous, all-knowing cult, which through them is the only path to "enlightenment".

That is very true. I know atheists that are like that, and I know atheists that aren't. They can be just as bad or good as anyone with any kind of belief.
For example:
At my university, every week some (in my opinion) self-righteous Christian preacher comes and preaches the whole fire and brimstone deal. While he does this, he is attacked verbally by equally self-righteous atheists (yelling at him, holding signs that say in big bold letters "F*CK YOU"/"F*CK GOD" without the *). But what I don't get is why do the atheists even do that? They are literally the ONLY ones who even listen to him, everyone else just walks by and ignores him. My atheist friend agrees with me too.
No difference other than belief.

Most of the atheists I know are closeted, either going to church every Sunday and Wednesday or at least saying they’re “not very religious.” Heck, I didn’t even know they were atheists until they knew I was. (I make a point of correcting people who assume I’m Christian. Coming from liberal, secular family makes this much easier.) It’s a matter of geography, I guess.
