It was today but I went hiking with a few friends. Heres the info.

Dog Mountain

Distance: 7.1 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 2850 ft
Hike Time: 4.5 hours
Difficulty: Strenuous
Trail Condition: Difficult
Hike Type: Loop

It was really difficult, there was never a time where we weren't walking on level ground. It was all up hill.

Hiking Pic's on Facebook
You guys should be able to view the ablum. In case not, i'll just post a few pics.
I would just post this in the longest thread but me and some friends are going hiking tomorrow and then next thursday. So i'll most likely just bump this thread with new photos. Oh, and I won't post all 21 photos.

It was cold when that pic was taken.

I was still at the top of the mountain.

You can't see it but since there is no depth perception that hill infront of me went down about 700 feet at a 90+ degree angle.

The downside was, about 0.5 miles up the trail I lost feelings in my legs. It didn't help that I was wearing steel toe boots. Since most of the climb was at a steep up hill, I couldn't walk back down. I had to sprint and skip a little to slow myself down. So I got a huge blister on the side of my toe from my shoe.

Sounds like fun! Reminds me of when I went up "Le Chaudron" in Quebec.

This is the best pic I could find, it really does not justify it as it looks so low, but its rather high up there.

The climbing was not too bad though it kinda spirals around the whole thing and its not too steep even though the mountain itself is very steep in general.

It was, I can't wait to go back there at night. Enjoy hearing some drunk stories around a camp fire.
"Le Chaudron" looks like it'd be really fun to hike up. Hard to tell but it kind of looks like you could rock climb up it. That would be fun too.

Yeah you probably could, some parts are like walls going straight up. At the foot theres TONS of gray rocks, its very fun to walk around on them - some are loose and stuff while some are jabbed in real good.

Sounds like i'd start to get worn out 30 feet into the climb. But, i'd still give it a shot.

Pssh, i'm not whining. Was your hike uphill at nearly a 60-70 degree angle then close to a 90 degree angle at the last 100 feet to the summit? Hmm?! I don't think so. :D :D :nana:
Besides, you're 8. You are still full of energy and youngess. Yes, thats just a word I made up. I'm 19, i'm getting too old for all of this.

It also looks like you had a huge backpack which does not help the situation. :P

Aye, had about 25lbs of water and i'd say 7-10lbs of gear. Brought some useless stuff in case we ended up getting lost and camping there. Other thing that I found out was steel toe boots are a bad idea when hiking.. <_<

Hey hey hey, age doesn't matter. If he was 10 months old, then.. maybe. But she was eight, she probably weighs 50lbs. That was how much I was carrying around. :D

7 miles with only the one blister isn't bad, I had to do a 'forced march' in the military, with ruck, kit, boots, rifle and by the end of it my feet were 'mush' the entire soles of both my feet were blister.

when I walked, I had no idea there were that bad, however after the march, is when the pain was setting in. We were all walking on the sides of our feet to get anywhere.

the lesson was clear, at least in a military point of view. after a march like that, as a soldier we are useless if we can't walk., Not a shot fired and an entire regiment was put out of action.

boots need to fit and must be tight, there can be no movement withing the boot or the blisters will develope
