So, just last week at work - no week previous - I was lamenting to a coworker how I need to find a gaming, anime loving, geeky girl. Now I suddenly have two such women that just appeared in like two days between Sunday and Monday... well one I've known for five months that just confessed she's had this big crush on me for a while (right back at her;)), and the other that I never met before is sooo... wow. WTF? A long dry spell and then two available women appear in the space of two days? W T F ?!? Damn the luck! Now I have to figure out which one to pursue... the one I want the most doesn't live near me, but the other does. Damn, damn, damn the luck(?)!

Okay so I can't say i'm the love expert since i'm only 19 and failed at most of my relationships but i'd say go with the one that you see working out the best. Keep in touch with the other though.

You do seem pretty lucky to have two just pop up. Especially if they are a bit of a gamer. Two of my friends own a xbox and only one of my friends knows what WoW is. Its pretty hard finding a relationship when i'm not in school. I could hit on the 23ish year olds that are way outta my league at the gym..

I’m increasingly convinced that castration is the secret to a happy love life. Seriously, though, good for you! Where did you meet this crush gal? Any plans?

I sometimes find myself thinking this very thing. The desire to love and be loved, or at its core, the biological imperative to have sex is so profoundly fundamental to the human experience. Some people are luckier than others... Some people are more successful than others in this. So much energy can be spent on it, and for what? Of course, should I ever find myself in a position of "romantic security" I won't have such thoughts, but I am certain that my life would be very different... much more successful and productive if I didn't have sexual desire and the desire to love almost always eating at me.

I was thinking about this during the last couple of weeks... I get depressed sometimes. Last week, I got so depressed at work, I even considered asking for a demotion. What caused it? Particularly hopeless thoughts about finding romantic success. As I've thought about each depressive episode, they all seem to stem from, or are triggered by discussion or thoughts about it in a hopeless context. I know each time, however, that such moods will pass, and that no major decision should be made during it.
Seriously, though, good for you! Where did you meet this crush gal? Any plans?
It's honestly very bittersweet for me. When I said "damn the luck", I meant it from the heart. The one that has a crush on me, that I've also had a crush on lives in California. We met gaming online, exchanged myspace links, and phone numbers, and things have only intensified. However, I just talked to her about the possibility of anything ultimately happening, and it really comes down to the challenge of dealing with the distance - something we might try to overcome, but not likely at this point. I know in my mind that this other girl that lives closer is the more logical, reasonable woman to pursue, but you have no idea how much I wish it was the girl in California. Despite wonderful possibilities with this local girl, I feel frustrated and somewhat saddened. But, c'est la vie.

If nothing serious happens with either, I will look back on this past Sunday and Monday with a forlorn despair... such possibilities, such beautiful possibilities that were ultimately not realized.

God I get sappy about this stuff, but I have been starved of it for so damn long... to get a mere taste, only to be returned to the middle of the desert... I would ALMOST rather never love, and never want to love or be loved.

God's a cruel bastard.

I'd say go with the one you can see yourself with in a few years. If she's too far away, then maybe just stay friends. Get to know this other girl first and make sure she's good for you and you like her a lot. Then make your decision. Don't rush into it.

So, after talking to the Cali girl, I'll be flying down to see her not this weekend, but the next. I'm actually not feeling all that nervous about it, either - I feel good about it. We've got great chemistry thus far... now we just need to see what happens face-to-face. GG, you might appreciate this, but I met her in WoW ;) We were questing in Desolace, killing those satyrs at like lvl 32 or 33 or something. We leveled together until about 55 and then grouped together occasionally afterwards. It just feels like this crap is falling into place too easily, but hell, since I've got the opportunity, I'll run with it. If this long-distance thing becomes more serious, well, at least I have a lot of vacation time I can take pretty easily and the money part really isn't an issue either.

looool if you marry her, that will make a great story about how you met.

I'm sure theres actually some married couples out there who originally met on online games. Thats great.

Sounds pretty serious if you're actually going out of town to see her though. Plane tickets arn't cheap.

Dude, I'm a single guy who works Friday and Saturday nights... there isn't much else I'm spending my money on;)

As for the whole seriousness of it, I mean, we've known each other since December, have talked more and more over the last couple of months and now talk and text on the phone quite a bit. Sure some of it will wear off as the infatuation wanes and then maybe there'll be something more long-lasting... but meeting face to face is a necessary preliminary to just about every direction this thing could really even take, so I'm good with sooner vs. later - besides, I already has next weekend scheduled off from work, so it's yet another thing that has creepily worked out....

***edit: Hmmm, "I already has next weekend scheduled off"? LOLcat infection, sry.

Dude, that's awesome. And it does happen. More and more frequently too. WoW is a much more social MMO than a game like Everquest or something. It's much easier to meet somebody you'll like in real life.

Hey hey, EQ is a very social game buddy. :D
In my opinion, I think EQ is a bit more social in terms of finding someone than WoW is. EQ has women that are more 21-25 while WoW has women that are jail bait..

But sticking to the subject, that is awesome Stasi. I've only been in one long distance relationship and that was because we got accepted to different colleges. I don't know if you live near california but since I like to be cheap, instead of flying, I would buy train tickets. Took about 3 days to get from Oregon to Minnesota. That part kinda drove me insane.

Which does remind me, you Minnesotaians are kind of weird Clueless. :P
When we would go out, nearly everyone said hi to us and tried to do a little small talk. In Portland, we just walk by each other. On a rare occasion you would nod your head at someone but that was it.

It is awesome. Never thought I'd "meet" a woman playing online computer games. Haha, she's a night-elf rogue. We play on Bonechewer.

The distance sucks, but whatever. We'll meet and see if the chemistry follows face-to-face. I think it will, but we'll see. If we click right, then we'll figure out how to proceed. I got direct round-trip flights... paid a bit more, but I am NOT going to go through a 5-7 hour ordeal (including flight time and layovers) before meeting someone for the first time. Heh, I don't know that I'd do any different any future time - that's way too much time that could be better spent.

I have a couple of "rules" when I game online. I assume that people who play as a female character (as I do) are males, unless they prove otherwise - in the case of this girl, I found out via talking in Vent. I also never assume that even if it is a real girl, that she's legal, or otherwise worth real flirting - in this case, I "know" because I've seen her Myspace page.

Oh, and btw, from my past work at CompUSA, I also know there are a lot of 30-45 year old women who play EQ. WoW seems to definitely be a younger crowd.

From what i've seen it might depend on the server though. On Lightninghoof a lot of the girls who play aren't older then 18. (Most quit playing for college). Lightninghoof isn't that great of a server imo.
On EQ, the majority of the women who play are married but i've ran into a few that are under 24.

I'm jealous that you get to go to cali, was supposed to go there this summer but my friend went to boot camp for Air Force ROTC.

^^ I "met" both on teh internets.

I had my weekend in SoCal and had a great time. The great chemistry we had online and over the phone carried over face-to-face. So, we're going to try a long-distance relationship and see what happens.

pursue the one that has 'admitted' having the crush. The other one might be your mind just playing tricks on you

Yep, the one with the crush is the one I'm now in a long-distance relationship with. Though the distance and cost of airplane tickets is/will be a pain going forward, I think she's worth it.

yeah our beer can actually make you drunk, the downside is that you have to drink responsibly, well you don't HAVE to, but that's what they say.

Eh, I just drink mix / liquor if I want to get drunk. Guinness is a pretty good beer to drink for taste. The drunkness factor is just a plus.
When ever I do get drunk. I get drunk responsibly. Usually because I end up passing out.
