I find it crazy how one of the #1 industries is weight loss. But whenever someone goes on whatever diet it usually does not work, or it works at first then they regain.
Then you have other people, like me, who never go on a diet, and eat fast food and other super unhealthy stuff, and have trouble even gaining weight.
I think the only decider in weight gain/loss is the body's metabolism and other uncontrollable things. It's either your metabolism can process food faster then you can eat it, or it can't. Some people are hungry more often then others and need to eat more then others to satisfy their hunger, so they have a bigger tenancy to gain weight specially if they have a slow metabolism.
Just a random thought. I see people all around me all the time "oh I can't eat that,I'm on a diet" I just smile, as I take 2 of whatever it is, and I'm skinny but yet eat like a pig. I've also been told I should be kept away from sugar... sugar is my friend. I go Ziiiiiiiing *puff of smoke*

yeah, those diet plans tend not to work in the long term. A lot of times the weight you lose is water, which you'll gain back as soon as you eat normally again. Though weight loss in general is not a myth. The only real 100% sure effective way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. Essentially burn more calories than you take in. And the only way to keep that weight off is to make permanent lifestyle changes, i.e. eat less, exercise more for the rest of your life. It's not quick, and it takes dedication, but that's the only real effective way.

Most of the "Weight loss diets" are complete bull****. Like you said, most of it is metabolism. You have a fast metabolism like me Red. When I was little, I ate nothing but junk food and I never went past 110 lbs until I started lifting weights. I don't know much on weight loss, only weight gain but if you just consume less calories that you burn you will slowly lose weight. But it isn't like a one week deal. It could take months to get to where you want to be. And then for food, its mostly vegetables. So many women who exercise at the gym, to lose weight, I go to decided to be vegetarians for the time being. I say women because every guy wants to add muscle mass.

Meaningful, long-term weight loss requires lifestyle changes (and no, they're not horribly boring, tasteless changes, either). A lot of people refuse to acknowledge this and instead spend tons of money on quick-fixes... doesn't work that way folks.

lol @ the google ads. We'll get all the weight loss stuff now.
Funny since I decided to cut down on fast food for a bit, already loosing weight. I have to find a way to gain weight, without gaining a heart attack. I need to find the perfect balance.

Eat less, exercise more. The most effective diet. If you can get up off your fat lazy ass.

Not neccessarily eating less i think. Just eating better and proportioning better. I'm the same way as you though, red. I can eat a lot but not gain a pound. But if my mother ate what i eat, she'd gain double the amount of fat that was in the food! lol. Women, i think, genetically just have a harder time losing weight and an easier time gaining it.
And red, i've found that all of my gamer/nerd friends are very thin, but we never exercise at all and we eat a lot. Usually a lot of crap. But many kids who do exercise get fat anyways...it's odd.
I think it has to do with your body becoming tolerant of bad foods. For instance, i've eaten doritos and crap like that for a long time. When i eat them, i don't get fat at all. But if my mother, who eats very healthy all the time, were to scarf down half a bag of doritos, she'd get crazy fat. But she never eats them.
Maybe it's kind of the same thing where people who drink a lot don't get drunk as easily than people who never drink. It's a tolerance thing.

I think its that as well, the body gets tollerent. and think if you throw in SOME healthy stuff in there, it helps a lot. Like latetly Ive been trying to watch what I eat, not for the weight factor, but just the health factor. But it does not mean I stop all of a sudden, which I think may be part of the issue with some diets.
If you totally change your diet around the body does not react well, is my guess.
And it is funny how lot of us geek types are the same, skinny but we eat like pigs, and eat horrible at that. But you do get the occasional fat geek, like that guy on the WoW south park episode, perfect example of a fat geek/gamer. Those are the people that usually start the trash talk threads on gaming forums.

Just eating better
and proportioning better.
And how often does that translate into eating less? I'm sure quite often.

well less of the bad stuff, more of the good stuff, basically.
So have a baconator combo instead of a double baconator combo with extra fries.

Eat more healthy things basically. Still fill your stomach up, just fill it up with a salad and some light ranch instead of a double quarter pounder with cheese. Then go and have yourself a small cup of fries once in a while.
That's what i've started to do some. When i'm hungry and i want something to snack on, instead of grabbing some ice cream or other bad crap, i'll grab myself a salad and some light hidden valley and go to town.

If you want mcdonalds just walk there, that way you burn the calories that you'll gain when you eat it.
And save on gas.
That, is how you can win at life.
