It's sad, but there are still small towns with racial hatred like that scattered across the country. Unfortunately there is so much hate on both sides of the incident that we likely will never know what really happened.

My mother grew up in the south during the whole civil rights time and I can assure not everything the blacks and whites are spouting is absolutely true. Black people mistreated white people a lot too back then. Vice versa.
My mom was trapped in her school in Florida as black people rallied and rioted right outside the school, throwing bricks/whatever they could find at the school and in to the windows and they were all warned that they could possibly die that day.
Experiences like these can cause a mistrust because of skin-color. Especially when you grow up during a time when things were so shakey.
