We are now on a new server. The hostname login.uovalor.com, uo.uovalor.com and uosrv.uovalor.com should now resolve to 67.19.165.242. If they do not, it may mean the DNS has not unpropagated yet for your ISP. To connect anyway, simply select that IP in razor or add an entry in your hosts file.

In Windows, this is located in c:windowssystem32driversetchosts or c:winntsystem32driversetchosts

In linux this is located in:

/etc/hosts

If you want to be extra sure you're actually logging on the right server, just check any item in game and it will have its original name. On old server all items say that the server has moved. Also, on new server, every player has been given 1 gold coin in their pack indicating its the new server. This is now the official server to play on, the old one will be retired shortly and is only there as a redirect.

We are now on a machine with a better cpu, and more ram. (2GB instead of 1GB).

There should hopefully be a performance increase when we start hitting peak times where many players are online.

The move is now considered complete, I simply need to do some server side final tweaks but nothing that should directly affect the shard.

Note that spawners may be broken, I was in the middle of enhancing them and never had a chance to finish until this move happened, so its work half done, once I finish them they will spawn properly.

----original post follows---------

Turns out all this time we were on a lower end server then what I've been paying for. I contacted the data centre and they acknoledged the mistake and are willing to rectify the issue. Right now we're on a Celeron box when we should be on a P4 thats 1Ghz more.

I will post more info.

There will be a scheduled downtime for the switch over, and possible DNS propagation time but I'll be posting more info as we go. For now I'll set the TTL to 1 hour to prepare for the DNS switchover if there is one. If we keep the same IP then it wont be a problem.

That's great news. That will certainly speed things up on the server as far as world saves and such go. That should fix the spiking too.

Yeah just noticed the spikes that happen frequently when theres over 20 online. I'm tweaking spawners right now which I hope are the cause. A new server will help but when it spikes like that, it also means its some process thats taking lot of cpu power for shorts amount of time. The spikes are short but they are frequent, so it makes running hard

UPDATE:

I got a call from the data center, they will be setting me up a new server with a different IP to give me a chance to transfer the data over so there may be a period of downtime as the DNS propatigates. I've set the DNS TTL to 1 hour yesterday so it should be refreshing on hourely cycles now. So the biggest downtime will probably be 1 hour. I will post the new IP here so you can still connect directly during this period.

Whats awesome is that we will be getting a free ram upgrade AND I will be credited for the mistake! This will be like getting income tax at the end of the year, but better!

You will notice "NEW SRV" in server list, do not pick it yet, I'll post when. I will also make it clear in game on whether you hit the right server or not.

I will try to make this transition as smooth as possible to avoid any kind of revert.

Nice. I was gonna say they should give you some "back pay" type thing or something.

The live server saved for the last time. It is now considered a period of server wars. I will break the shard later to make it clear that its the wrong one to be on. :)

Tasks to be done:

Copy Saves to my home machine...done
Copy saves to new server...done
Testing phase on new server...done

Move completed at 10:59PM ET

ETA was 11:00PM ET

Deadline met by 1 minute. (I'm THAT good. :P)
