Yeah, there is another book thread somewhere back there that I started, but a new one is nice, too. I just finished Don't Know Much About the Civil War. Now that I have the generals and major battles in mind, I can read The Guns of the South, and follow it a bit better. In The Guns of the South, some people go back in time from the future and give machine guns to the Confederates, so that the South actually wins the Civil War. The book goes through the major battles and tells what would have happened (possibly) with that added advantage.

I recently read King Leopold's Ghost which talks about the same part of Africa that The Heart of Darkness is set in. I also heard that King Leopold's Ghost is going to be made into a movie.

I am listening to the Bounty on CD on my way to work, and their was an interesting story about a Captain Duckworth who kept pigs on his ship. During a storm a pig was washed overboard, and this is what the Captain's reaction was.

"Back the yards, back the yards; lower a boat, there's a pig overboard; my pig - pig - pig will be drowned," Duckworth had stammered.

"It's our pig," a watching midshipman had interjected.

"What - what? their pig - their pig; Keep on course ... we must not risk - risk - risk men's lives for a pig...."
From The Bounty, by Caroline Alexander, page 198.

For some reason, I just thought that was humorous.

I suspect most of you won’t be able to see that page, so I just finished The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. I’d totally keep a copy in my pocket if it weren’t so big.
