ok, so the other day i was sitting at the computer, talking to a couple friends on messenger and doing w/e else i do on here. then my dad comes up behind me and asks me who im hanging out with. i was a lil confused and i was like "uhh no one" then he points at the screen and is like the thing is flashing orange though, you're talking to someone. i was like "what? yeah, im talking to people online, but thats not "hanging out" with them" so we got into this argument about the meaning of the phrase "hanging out" he believes just communicating with the person is hanging out with them, but you only use that term when you're physically near the person lol so ya, you can all tell me im right now, tell Mr. Bookworm hes wrong hehehe

Guess there's different ways to look at it, hanging out could be done virtually. Like in UO sometimes we all hang out and just talk instead of going out and killing stuff. But in game we're still "physically" close to each other so yeah hanging out is usually a grouping of people or virtual people together just talking or domething something. But if we're all doing our own things and using guild chat then that would not really be hanging out.

Another "Using UO to compare real life things" lesson by Red Squirrel. Next lesson, I will smelth these old weapons into ingots and teach recycling. Thank you for staying with us. *applause, everyone starts leaving, credits roll*

See, I knew it. In the virtual world, you do not have to be physically near another person to hang out with them. Spending time with them online is hanging out.

I’ve never encountered the term used in a virtual sense, but it guess it’s possible. After all, the Internet is becoming more and more integrated with our lives.

Besides, Clueless, I sided with you last time. :P

I don't know. When I'm playing my video games, there's a certain group that we have and we "hang out". But of course, hanging out means we all die together, because we're too stupid to know not to fight the same monster twice.

LOL that's great. That's pretty much how it goes for us. Someone opens a moongate, someone else goes in "I'll check if it's clear" 2 second later comes back as a ghost.

hanging out is hanging out no matter if it is online with friends or in "real" life....I mean if it's not hanging out, everyone on the computer you talk to is not your friend? Your just typing randomly? :P
