I have 3 houses on my block networked and now need a server should i biuld one or buy a cheap pc and modify it?

For a server I'd build it, get the biggest case you can find, with the best cooling option, fill it with fans and get half decent hardware, and the cheapest video card you can find. HDD racks are also nice for easy swapping of HDDs for when you want to archive/backup or what not.

Well, what function do you want the server to perform? This will determine whether you need something newer, or if something older will do.

I really just need a NAS, to stream MP3's and pull off pictres but a server would be a easy way to do that with a big tower and a via EPIA board.
