ok... so im working down here in california on a house in the palo alto area (between san jose and san francisco) anyways, the house is being built on two acres... the two acres used to have a 70's house but the current owner bought the two acres and the old house for 2.5 million. then tore down the house and started building his own 8300 square foot home that is going to cost 5 million+... its pathetic... i saw a stretched hummer the other day. its a hummer that is 35 feet long. now the point of a hummer is of roading. and a 35 foot hummer with 6 inches of ground clearance is thus worthless yet costs who knows what. i see these 15,000, 20,000, 10,000 square foot homes around here. and what, two parents with maybe two kids live in them? think about how much good a family could do with all of the money that they, imo, waste on useless things. im the youngest of 4 kids. my entire family of six lives in a 4000 square foot home. and its plenty big for 6 of us. how a family of four would live in 20,000 square foot home is beyond me.
i guess its their money, their life but i just get thinking about what they could do with that money

any thoughts?

Commodity fetishism. Status. Full-force embrace of the worst of consumerism. It's lots of nasty things.... however....

Well they're the ones stuck cleaning those huge houses. :D But yeah people just like to show off they're rich. Personally I would build a big house but not HUGE and simply make it high tech rather then go super huge.
