TORONTO (CP) - The Canadian dollar was down Tuesday as overseas traders assessed the Monday's election win by the Conservatives.

The loonie was trading at 86.65 cents, down 0.36 cent, at 4 a.m. ET, after closing Monday at 87.01 cents US, its second-highest level in almost 15 years. The currency, which was worth 85.62 cents US when the Liberal minority government fell on Nov. 28 and hit a 14 1/2-year closing high of 87.21 cents on Jan. 4, dipped under 86.70 cents shortly after it became clear the Conservatives would win the most seats but fall short of a majority.

Personally I really could not make up my mind who to vote for so I'm not mad, nor happy they won. I just hope they do a good job and don't pull off anything bad like legalizing guns and other things pro-american harper wants to do. At least some of the nonesense such as gay marriages will hopefully be rebanned, how it should be.

Red, I was watching a news cast about police officer in europe get blasted away cuz gun were illegal. That great make them illegal so criminals are the only ones who have them. making them illegal just makes it so more people cant defend themselves.

Also remember red one the US ecomomy keeps your little county afloat there is a reason all your major citys are within 300 miles of the board :didi: .

Well cops should obviously be allowed guns, they are here, guess it's different in Europe.

Chances are though, the criminal got the gun from a place where it's not illegal. It's like Toronto, people think it's to play GTA or something, they get all these cool firearms in the US and start randomly killing people just for fun of it.

That rarely happens, the problem is in the US that gets great ratings on the news so its pushed real hard. Plus school shooting are down, parents/teachers/students know what to look for. The real problem is parents in to days world have so much on there plate compared to other counties longer work weeks, high cost of health care, retirement, that they forget that if they can give up a few amenities and spend time with there kids it can make them better people.

Plus when your justice system locks up people for pot and lets violent criminals out thats also an issue. granted pot is illegal but I rather have a guy that is dangerousin jail than a 45 year old man get sent to jail for 6 years cuz he was caught for the 12th time with pot with less than 1/20 an oz and was smoking it. Same goes for hookers, make it legal like cananda so then you can tax it and take the crime out of it.
