Don't forget. On Sunday, January 8, the postage rate for a letter goes up from 37 cents to 39 cents. That's if you live in the US. I don't know what it costs to mail a letter in Canada or anywhere else.

Blame it on the hurricanes. Because the hurricanes are blamed on for high gas prices, and high gas prices affect postal costs so they have to charge more.

:D

You may wish to read the USPS announcement. It seems that this increase is to give money to Congress, not to keep up with the rising costs of delivering mail.
http://www.usps.com/communications/news/press/2005/pr05_097.htm wrote: This rate increase - the first since 2002 - is needed to fulfill the requirement of a federal law passed in 2003. That law requires the Postal Service to establish a $3.1 billion escrow account, with use of the funds to be determined by Congress at a later date. Without this federal mandate, it would not have been necessary to raise rates in 2006.
We should, of course, blame Bush here.

That was a hoax. We never considered charging for e-mails. I'm not sure that would even be possible.

I think message boards/IM are somewhat replacing email to a certain extent, so if they did charge for email, it would die out completely. I talk to people more over forums/IM than email.

Yeah sending regular mail is annoying, so I use email most of the time. Heck, even to send money to my suppliers I use email now. :D

I just heard that the post office is considering raising the rates again in a year or two, up to 43 cents. They are also considering selling a "forever" stamp. It would be good for a first class letter at any time in the future, even if the rates go up a lot higher than they were when you bought the stamp.
