UO server - would you play?

I've been thinking of starting a UO server. It's just something I've been pondering on mostly, not sure if I'll do it but I'd like to. My question is, would anyone here be interested in playing? And would you invite friends on it?

Basically, if I can get the funding nessesary for it, I'll go nuts and get a dedicated server. I'd start off by hosting it in my basement, but bandwidth would be an issue so we'd have to go with a remotely managed dedicated server at some point.

Are UOs better than Dahwahs?

Oh! I thought it was a word play joke series. Or do you really mean you're intending to start an "Ultima Online" server? I'm busy playing Dungeon Siege- Legends of Aranna in single player mode (having finished Dungeon Siege itself).

I'm not sure I'd be interested in the multi-player online and definitely not if it's fee based. I'm too cheap. I could start a Dungeon Siege server on my own PC (already running a web server from it), but I'm too selfish and use the PC for other stuff on my own whims and you can't save multi-player games, but have to keep the server running permanently or else tick people off. Besides, my ISP says running a server from a residential account is against their terms of use agreement, so I'm already breaking the rules - but then so is anyone using p2p, multi-user gaming, or most IM programs, technically speaking, so they really only enforce the rule in extreme cases.

Short answer - No, I wouldn't be playing UO, but don't let that stop you. Set up the server - they will come. :)

It would not be fee based, it would be free, but money would be made through ads on the shard site. Iceteks and AF together (well mostly Iceteks) brings me very close to enough money for a dedicated server. My isp sucks so the server here would only handle like 10 people at once, if that, so it would be temporary, but I'd make sure to move everything properly to the online one so we don't loose any items, stats, etc.

UO has bad graphics, but very good gameplay. Unlike most games where you either have to do the same thing over and over, or have to follow a linear mission, in UO you can do anything you want. PvP, PvM, explore in dungeons (and get killed), etc.

On my shard what I'd do is make lot of customizations and stuff, and make it easier to gain skills, since some skills like poisoning, and most crafting skills are a PIA to gain.

Not sure, never played Morrowind.

I have a ton of screenshots here:

Hmm too bad I never got one of my house on the shard that closed down, it was awesome.

Would be free for those who play, but for me it's 100 bucks US a month minimum. That's about what a dedicated server costs.

I would not supply the game though so it's up to people to get it, it's a pay game, but if you find a way and get it for free well that's none of my business. (and it will work just as good, as long as you have the samuri empire expansion pack which I think is pretty much standard nowdays anyway). The server software itself is free though, it's open source.
