Can you reuse the windox xp start up on a new computer even though it was used before?

Is it home or pro? If it's home, you'll need some kind of crack to get past the activation crap.

its the home one. I was gonna get a new pc but realized it didn't have an os not really feeling up to buying one.

Hmm home is a pain to get working, after a format even on the same PC. Never done it though I run win2k. That's also an option if you want.

Activation is the issue really, that is if you're concerned about being legit. If you change too much hardware or get a new computer, the activation won't work anymore without a call to MS. And seeing as it would be hard to prove you still aren't using it on your old box, I don't know if MS would let you get away with it even if you called them, but it's worth a shot. They probably use an automated system for that stuff anyway which doesn't care too much for details.

Mind you if you don't care too much about being legit, there's always the corporate edition.

I use a W2K3 corp edition, no activation at all and I can get all the updates anyways

There's also *ahrem* certain programs that get around activation for XP home and pro... ones that we won't mention by name here... but they work.
