If your not into music a whole lot then your probably best to get an iPod mini (or Creative Zen micro). They hold either 1000 or 1500 depending which you go for. I'd have no idea where to get on cheap over there. But anywhere you get one its probably cheaper than here.

From what I've seen, its easier to use the iPod and its far easier to put songs on it tan the Zen. But some of the iPods have had battery problems and they have to be sent back for a new one a year after buying it but I think they have that sorted now.

Personally, I'd go (well I did go) for an iPod. I got the 5000 song one.

iPod Shuffle is better if you're not really into music. It has 2 kinds, the less expensive on and the more expensive one. The less expensive can hold like 120 song, or up to 512 MBs. The more expensive can hold up to 240, and I forgot the amount of space. They range from $100-$150. I'm not gonna say $99.99 or anything like that. But, either way, I have the iPod shuffle, and let's just say, I can't imagine a life without it! :D iPod shuffle charges for one hour for 12 hours of life.. or it's 1 hour and 30 minutes. Either way, I think it's good if you'd rather buy the CDs, but have a few songs you want to make portable. (Oh, and you charge it in the USB slot in your computer)

I wouldnt go down the IPod shuffle route. Sure its good and all, but I think it'd be worth the extra bit to have a screen and listen to a particular song when ever you want. The Shuffle would be too "random" for me anyway.

I'd recommend the Rio Carbon over the Ipod mini (except, of course, if you buy music from the Itunes store). It's cheaper and holds an extra gig.

As for those with craploads of music, a regular ipod is an ok choice, but I prefer iRiver's products. They sound better, hold and do more, but they cost more than an ipod.

As for the shuffle, it's a piece of shite, stay away from it.

Well, theres a Shuffle button and an in order button. I like the iPod mini, that's just me. It is kind of cruddy, but it's okay if you'd rather have the CDs, as I said. It's just a portable, because I lost my CD player, and decided to get an iPod instead, so I don't hafta waste money on batteries. :D

freeipods.com GET A FREE IPOD!!!! (please enter this code: 34242432)

J/K that's a scam, most of them are scams. They're fairly cheap now anyway. A few hundred bucks will get you a 40 Gig one.

Thanks for all the input. Really i'm not looking for much just enough space to hold a couple hundred songs i guess. I just want an mp3 that can handle being used in the gym and when i go running. With the Ipods i heard they you must use a specific type of headphones and a certain battery any truth to that?

edit: how is this one newegg
or this
newegg2

Both are cheap, don't hold THAT much. What is the transfer process like?

Well, with my iPod shuffle, I use Panasonic headphones (they don't come with it) and I plug my speakers into it.

My sister plugs her iPod into the car, everything seems to work out right. As for the iPods with screens, I wouldn't know.

Doubt you'd get a couple of hundred songs on either of those but they'd be perfect for running or training. As far as I know the transfer process is pretty simple. I dont think there is a whole lot more to it than plugging it in and dragging your songs into its drive.

The ipod has a built in battery, but if it needs replacing than you have to send it back to Apple and pay them to put a new one in (if its out of warrenty). And any earphones work with it.

The Creative, you just remove the black part from the blue shell, and stick it in your computer to transfer. It uses disposible bateries.

The Ipod can use either Firewire or USB to transfer data.

You can use any headphone on all of these, but if your iPod batteries die, you gotta send it back to Apple.

I'm telling ya, man, these are a good deal. They'll hold more than a couple hundred songs at high quality.

Has anyone seen the iPod nano? I don’t think I’ve ever come closer to worshipping anything as this.

I think i'd rather have a short and stubby mp3 then a thin mp3.
