If you bought or received an HP computer since 1 September 2001 and are a U.S. resident, you could get things for your computer that you should have gotten in the first place free of charge.

I don’t really feel like explaining the situation, and I don’t have to since http://computersettlement.com does a better job than I can.

I’m an HP user who has an invisible recovery partition instead of a recovery CD-ROM. If I understand everything correctly, I can get the CD-ROM mailed to me free of charge. I’m very happy about that. I remember having a little accident with PartitionMagic and making the entire hard drive inaccessible. Instead of pulling out a CD-ROM, I had to mail the computer back to HP! (Thankfully I didn’t have to pay for the postage!)

It’s no coincidence. That thread made me realise that there may be some HP owners here, so I decided to post about the settlement. :)

(In response to that thread, I’ve been happy with my HP computer. However, I want to fit in and stay alive, so HP computers are terrible, worthless, etc.)

EDIT: I absolutely love how the Web site uses the word “relief”.

compaq (ironicly now owned by HP) was just as bad. Funny thing is, it's illegal, so not sure how they get away with it.

They're HP. If they can get away with selling the worst computers ever, then they can do that too.

Haha yeah.

I sometimes feel like charging people extra when I need to service their PC and it's a compaq. Especially hardware... ever open up a compaq? OMG so insane.

No, metal everywhere, sometimes you need power tools (such as a dremel or pipe cutter) to add/remove hardware.

X.X Ewww, It's like my HP in there. You have to take off the bottom to take out the harddrive.. but guess what! You can't! Woo! The base is screwed in with like little nubby screws that have been stripped ON PURPOSE

I received my recovery discs (“relief”) today. Hopefully I won’t have to use them!

recovery discs or the o.s. disk?

My p.o.s. is a compac to, however first thing I did was format the entire drive. some issues with finding the mobo drivers, however everything is working fine.

after formating guess what NO o.s. disk? - It is like compac supports pirated versions.

anyways any bundled p.c. h.p. compac, get rid of it, you got a 'deal' with the hardware, dump everything make your own partitions, do a fresh install and then use norton ghost to make an image. - make sure you have the drivers, lol

since I have used this method, I really don't care with virus, worms etc. It would take longer to discover proper ways to get rid of the virus than it does for me to restore an image.

I do use an a/v at the very least for browsing the weeb.

nod32 is the best, and not hard on ram

dump Norton, it is garbage

They roll the computer back to the factory defaults. In other words, the OS plus a bunch of crap.

yup, bunch of junk on it, my dad just got an hp, and his movies still open with realplayer.

don't get me wrong, some third party plugins are better than default windows, it is just that with windows you know where the buttons are, lol
