Happy Mayday to everyone. I can't believe we had snow flurries on the first day of May. Why do I live in Minnesota?

And why is the word Mayday used as a distress call?

Sources indicate that it comes from the French word m'aidez which means help me.

Anywho, I hate #May Day for 2 reasons.

1) Its summer, I hate Summer its too hot. Even though we dont get "real" hot over here thank God.

2) May day or around it is when a whole heap of commies and hippys take to the streets about anti globalisation and all they do is get in peoples way. Nothing gave me more satisfaction than seeing a police man beating a hippy with a stick 2 years ago.

My sixth grader is having "hippy day" at his school. They are going to be tie-dying t-shirts, then having a "protest." I am not at all comfortable with having hippies presented as people for my kid to imitate.

Yes they are funny to laugh at. I'm not sure of their sense of humour though.

::/ Yeah that's crazy. The winters in Minnesota are brutal. The tempuratures average in the lower teens.

It's actually not quite that bad in the Minneapolis area. The coldest average temperature here in the dead of winter is 21.

Yeah it's -6.111. The snow starts getting sticky at that temp, usually great for snowball fights. But any hoter then it gets all slushy and crap.

What were they supposed to 'protest'? Hippies are disgusting, in more ways than one. I'm glad none of my schools ever tried to get me to emulate tuned-out dope smoking know-it-alls that had less to do with social change than some people would like everyone to believe.

The note I got from the teacher didn't say, but the kids were each supposed to give a minute-long speech protesting it, whatever "it" was.

That gives me memories of school days. Any type of activity different then normal school day involved having to get a letter signed by the parants. It was like this huge thing lol.

True hippies are disgusting, but what society deems a hippie is not a true hippie, rather true hippies are few and far between, like true punks. (like society in general; it is always a minority that understands how they really feel and understand why down to the root issues)

Come on people, society falls along the bell curve.

Oh, and I don't care about what I'm talking about anymore either.

I class as a hippy anyone who protests against pretty much anything. I really really really dont like protesting or protesters, which is strange because one of my best friends fits into that catogory (how the hell is that spelled). Anyway, yeah.

I remember getting into long discussions about 'true punk' and so on back on the SuicideGirls forum. Personally, I don't give a **** about the labels people like to place on themselves. In my opinion, a 'true punk' cares neither for the label nor the fashion and are their own person through and through. With that said, I think 'true punk' does little to explain anything and leaves the word 'punk' to exist as a superficial label for fashion and music and a particular lifestyle driven by the two. This parallels my thoughts on the notion of 'true hippy'.

There's nothing wrong with prostesting for a good cause, but protesting for the sake of protesting is worthless.

Meh, I just think protests/ers just get in the way of people who just want to get on with their lives.
